What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body with poplar burl top Rich and resonant tone
Maple neck Bright tone, full sustain and strength
Wizard II-7 neck Fast-playing for easy attack
Ibanez Quantum pickups High-output tone with high-end articulation

When the history of the solid body 7-string is told, there is one brand that stands above the rest: Ibanez. While other guitar makers experimented halfheartedly, Ibanez committed its full efforts to the development and perfection of this instrument. Now, the Ibanez artist roster brims with the leaders of progressive and heavy metal 7-string players. The RG7421PB exemplifies an artist-driven development process and the guitar building expertise that it yields.

Dressed in a refined Poplar Burl Top, the Mahogany bodied RG7421PB sports a jatoba fingerboard for warm, yet well-defined tonality. As the originators of the thin, fast neck, the Wizard II-7 is yet another achievement in player comfort -- resulting fretting hand fit that minimizes effort and maximizes your performance. Proprietary Quantum 7 pickups round out this metal mammoth with an entire palette of thick, distorted tone textures.

The famous RG shape, features and thin, fast neck are all here. But my guitar was made from wood that hadn't been seasoned quite well enough, and at some point on the 4000 mile trek from Indonesia to my house the neck shrank. So on arrival it had a hideous negative bow and exposed, jagged fret ends. After adjusting the truss rod and letting it set for twelve hours, repeated several times to get it right and then setting up the action the way it would have been on a Prestige line instrument before shipping the string height and relief is good. The fret ends had to be filed and polished one at a time. I considered returning it, but for the price this is a great guitar feature wise. With those minor annoyances aside I love this beast. The pickups are hotter than I expected from stock and I am now stuck with the Seymour Duncan Nazgul/Sentinet 7 set I ordered before hearing the factory pups. I may replace them anyway but I am honestly pleased with the tone the Ibanez pups put out. I read about some folks having issues with the electronics. Mine were very clean and well soldered and shielded. I can hold this thing right up next my PC and get virtually no electronic noise. Love that low B string's powerful drone. Now I understand why so many of my favorite artists beat that thing to death!
