When it comes to speed, no one tears up their axe quite like Paul Gilbert. That's why his FRM100 signature axe is a speed-demon that's eager to get into your hands. This guitar harnesses three single-coil hum-canceling DiMarzio pickups housed in a resounding mahogany body. You'll really hear the sustain as your fingers fly up and down 22 frets on this axe's three-piece mahogany/maple set-in neck. Paul Gilbert and the crew at Ibanez spent a lot of time carefully analyzing and combining the features that make this guitar a privilege to hear and pleasure to play. Not to mention -- the FRM100 looks like no other guitar out there!

Take a closer look at this eye-catching Ibanez:

Reverse Iceman Shape that Hugs Your Body

One of Paul Gilbert's signature FRM100's most apparent aspect is its atypical body design. The curves of its reverse Iceman body design gives a comfortable fit as it rests against your front. These curves also give this axe an atypical look that leaves a lasting visual impression.

Three DiMarzio Single-Coil Hum-Canceling Pickups

Paul Gilbert loves this guitar's biting tone. That's due to two DiMarzio Injector pickups for your neck and bridge, and a DiMarzio Area 67 in the middle. These babies project a trebly tone that slices through nicely, but not overly so, the way many single-coil pickups do. Your five-way pickup selector blade gives you five different pickup combinations, and your master volume and tone knob give you easy control of your signal output read more level and brightness/dullness settings.

Mahogany and Maple Tonewoods that Feel and Sound Great

Guitarists know how important the woods of their axes are in providing resonance and color to tone. Your FRM100's sleek and curvy mahogany body is a great resonator for your three DiMarzio pickups. The three-piece mahogany/maple neck is beefy but comfortable, and its set-in connection gives you a nice and smooth transfer of sound. Plug this baby in and see how long each note holds.

Paul Gilbert's Choice of Tall and Narrow Frets

Another great treat on this signature axe is Paul Gilbert's choice of using slightly taller and narrower frets. This allows for a looser feel for vibratos and bends. You'll be able to get under and push your strings further than you're used to, and these taller frets won't get in your way when you want to make flying runs up and down this guitar's sturdy and comfortable neck.

The Security of a Tight-Tune Bridge and Tailpiece

Holding your playing down are the tight and secure pairing of a Tight-Tune bridge and a Tight-Tune tailpiece. Your tailpiece will anchor your strings down tightly without killing any sustain. You can adjust your bridge until you get your scale length the way you want, but once you lock it down, it's not going anywhere until you loosen it again yourself. Intonation, security, and sustain are always at your side with these bad boys.

Ibanez FRM100 Paul Gilbert Guitar

The design of the Ibanez FRM100TR was inspired by many hours of playing and performance by Paul Gilbert with the original Ibanez Fireman model.

The most eye-catching part of the Ibanez FRM100TR is its unique body shape, featuring a distinctive reverse Iceman body outline. The Ibanez FM100TR's mahogany body balances remarkably well. The original Ibanez Tight-Tune bridge and tailpiece promote superior transfer of string vibration without unwanted movement.

The Ibanez FRM100TR features DiMarzio pickups favored by Paul. The bridge and neck positions feature DiMarzio Injectors, while the middle features a DiMarzio Area '67. They are designed with hum-cancelling construction to eliminate the noise but retain single-coil tone. These pickups have a warm, modern tone compared to vintage single coil pickups, and provide a clear, tight sound. The sound stays true even under high gain settings, so solos can be clearly heard when performing with a group. The classic bright and clean sound is easy to achieve.

The neck of Ibanez FRM100TR is different than the previous RG shapes in the Paul Gilbert signature series. It's thicker and fatter - 22mm@1st fret and 24mm@12th fret - for a classic feel. The 3 pc mahogany/maple/mahogany neck offers the player a fat and tight sound with a solid grip for comfortable playability which Paul demanded.

In addition to the new neck, Paul's new signature guitar features taller and narrower frets than on his older PGM models. These allow for clear note definition and easy playability all the way up the neck.

Next is the control layout. Similar to his other signature models, the FRM100TR features a specific layout to keep the volume knob location in Paul's favorite spot. In addition, the guitar features a pickup selector switch and an added tone control for maximum tone shaping.

Ibanez has released many Paul Gilbert signature models over the years, all featuring different specifications and unique design elements. The FRM100TR is the latest in that line, and a continuation of Paul's search for the ultimate in guitar features, tone and playability.

If you want a solid sounding guitar, this Ibanez is the one for you. The tone is exceptional. The thick neck does take time to get use to, but if tone and sustains is what your looking for this is the guitar. The pick ups are solid and single volume and tone knobs are located perfectly. Hardware could be improved but for the cost you cant complain.
