What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body with flamed maple top Bright, smooth mids; rich overall tone & resonance
Wizard II neck Fast and easy to play
Edge III tremolo system Exceptional intonation and smooth tremolo effects
EGEN8 pickup complement 3 versatile pickups for a range of sounds & styles

Herman Li spent over two years working with Ibanez to design his signature EGEN8 electric guitar. The result? The fantastical elements of Li's playing style and the all-around dragon-slaying epic-ness of DragonForce are forged into the ultimate utility of this axe. A thin, lightweight mahogany body provides comfort and resounding timbre to your playing, and the Wizard III three-piece maple neck is fast and comfortable with jumbo frets for easier bending and tapping. The custom combination of coil-splitting DiMarzio pickups really gets the best tone out of this baby. Feel the vigor of DragonForce's might with this impressive tool of tone.

Here what Herman Li has to say about the Ibanez E-Gen:

Thin Mahogany Body and Lightning-Fast Wizard III Neck

Your Ibanez EGEN8's mahogany body is comfortably curvy and thin, so you get the dark and rich tone of a heavy wood without the extra weight. This baby also sports a three-piece maple Wizard III neck -- an astoundingly playable appendage with amazing action and a comfortable feel.

Custom Combination of DiMarzio Humbucker/Single-Coil Pickups

You're not likely to find this combination of pickups on any other guitar. A Vintage 7 humbucker for the neck gives you a warm tone for rhythm that can brighten a bit when you want. The Single 1 for the middle utilizes Alnico 5 pole pieces and a high output to cut through, and your Vintage 8 bridge humbucker has a great lead sound that can also get warm and full.

Coil-Split for Nine Pickup Combination Settings

read more Your push/pull volume pot, used with your five-way selector switch, gives you nine different pickup combinations. With your switch pushed down -- neck (humbucker), neck (single-coil closer to middle) and middle, middle alone, middle and bridge (single-coil closer to middle), and bridge (humbucker). With your switch pulled -- neck (single-coil closer to neck), neck (single-coil closer to neck) and middle, neck (single-coil closer to middle) and bridge (single-coil closer to middle), middle and bridge (single single-coil closer to middle), and bridge (single-coil closer to middle). Clearly, with the Ibanez EGEN8, you have a lot of options.

Li's Scalloped Hand Grip on EGEN8's Horn

Herman Li had the exact shape of his left-hand's fingers grooved into your EGEN8's upper horn. So, when you grab it to shoulder this baby, or if you hold it for one-handed right hand taps or whammy bar dives, you'll feel Li's impression to remind you that you're playing a signature axe that has Herman Li's unique personal touch and approval.

Edge III Bridge for Whammy Use

The Edge III bridge on this baby has a impressively smooth spring system that allows it to bounce slightly when you push and release your whammy bar. You consistently get a smooth and relaxed feel with every bend. If you use the locking system at the nut, you'll hardly ever have to worry about intonation no matter how high you bend your strings or how low you dive your whammy bar.

Herman Li's Signature

Herman Li wanted to be sure that this guitar was designed as perfectly as possible. He wanted this axe to be the one he used on tour for months at a time, as it is, without any modifications or changes once it leaves the shelf. That means you're using the same exact guitar Li uses in a professional setting over extended periods of time. And if you're going for that DragonForce sound -- this is the very guitar that's capable of creating it!

This is very interesting looking and playing guitar. I like that it has high gain pickups for effects but has a thinner, strat like tone clean. The light wood, thin neck and body counter the high output PU's well. I am not a big tremolo guy but I like how this is set in and not as bulky as a typical Floyd rose. The body is cool and the neck/radius are easy on the hands. I play strats and find this easier to play and bend strings-and my strat is nice, worn in guitar. Accessing the high notes is very easy and I can actually play a scale up if I want with out killing my fingers are twisting my hand.Only complaint was the sharp frets. I filed them down but for the price should have been better. Frets are not large which doesn't bother me but if you shred may want wider ones. In general, a good shredder but with a classic vibe and classy look.
