The Hughes and Kettner Red Box Classic is a world-famous guitar direct box -- you'll never have to mic a guitar speaker again!

The Red Box converts your amp's line out or speaker out signal into a balanced, frequency-compensated signal that you can feed directly into a mixer. The Red Box Classic features two voicing options: a 4x12-inch cabinet and a 2x12-inch combo.

The Red Box Classic may be powered by phantom power, or a standard power adapter like the Boss PSA120, a 9 volt battery, or anything from 9-15V AC or 9-24V DC.

Overall: I used one a few years ago in a "live" setting and also in a studio. The thing simply amazed me! Since purchasing one about 6 moths ago I've used it for "live", recording and also in rehearsals straight from my pedalboard into the console and into our in-ear system with great results. You really can't beat it for the price! The beauty of it is playing in rehearsals and "live" I can get a great tone into our in-ear monitors. Much more realistic sounding than most amp modelers! In fact I recently did a recording session with my band and used it straight from my pedalboard into my interfaces and DAW software for "scratch" tracks and the guitar tone was so impressive that I kept the tracks and even utilized the same setup for lead tracks and additional rhythm tracks!

Style of Music: Classic Rock, Hard Rock and Metal covers and original material.

"The Fabulous "RED BOX""

Sound: I am a studio engineer and was fortunate to be able to use this for the first time 2 weeks ago when during a session. The tones were absolutely awesome. Combined with the preamp of the guitar, it was wide and dynamic beyond micing an amp. I recommend this to anyone who is trying to get that REAL sound into their recordings. I have 4 on order now. Value: It's a little pricey for a DI, but on the other hand, there's really nothing like it to compare to. So really, it's quite inexpensive in comparison to the proper mics for recording and better since the signal is direct without having to worry about distances for micing. Overall: who knows... it may be a lifetime of use, or maybe they will invent somethings that's better in the future. Hard to tell with the way technology is going
