I have been using a fender aerodyne jazz bass for a while and recently got involved in a ska project that, while it works for some of the more upbeat stuff, the j bass just didn't have the ability to tweak it's sound enough to suit all of my needs. This thing has a beautiful round, warm tone that fits seamlessly into the more trad/reggae heavy stuff. This thing is also light as a feather. The only issues i could see are 1) floating bridge. Out of the box it did take some setup to get the action right and I had to lower the pickups to keep the strings from making contact with the pickups. 2) the tailpiece has those metal attachments that run loose through a crossbar, so there is a buzzing you get, but it doesn't affect the sound when you have it plugged in. And 3) a minor cosmetic detail. I got it in cherry and the pickguard isn't black like it's shown in the picture, it's a white tortoise shell. Not a major issue, but definitely not what I was expecting.

Musical Background:

15 years on bass, mostly garage bands. Some recording.

Musical Style:

Rock, ska, reggae.
