Is that a vintage '60s SG? No, it's the Gibson SG Original: a nod to the first line of Gibson SGs, complete with Lyre tailpiece and '57 Classic humbuckers.

What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Mahogany body Rich, warm, focused sound; added sustain
Black block position inlays Classic, vintage look and upgraded quality
Gibson '57 Classic humbucking pickups Vintage PAF feel; warmth, depth and distinct edge
Lyre vibrato tailpiece Vintage style and silky-smooth vibrato

The Gibson SG Original electric guitar brings the SG design back to its roots. It recreates the look and feel of the original 1961 instrument so well, that only a close inspection reveals that this not actually an exceptionally well-preserved vintage instrument! In fact, it's an SG built to the original specs -- with the addition of a couple of subtle, more contemporary details to make it more versatile for modern-day players.

Mahogany Body and Neck

The body and neck of the Gibson SG Original are crafted out of solid Grade-A mahogany, imparting a tone with excellent bite and sustain. The neck is a deep-set, glued-in design, cut at a quarter-sawn orientation to make it maximally strong and resonant. Both body and neck are finished under a high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

Contemporary players will appreciate the neck's fast and slender proportions: 0.8 inches deep at the 1st fret, and 0.89 inches at the 12th. The fingerboard is attractively bound, and has a 12-inch radius with 22 medium-jumbo frets. The nut is PLEK-cut Corian nut and has a width of 1.6875 inches. The vintage-style headstock is characteristically oversized, and has a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlays.

'57 Classic: The World's Most Beloved Humbucker

The pickups onboard the Gibson SG Original are the supremely versatile and popular '57 Classic humbucking pickups. Each '57 is built with genuine Alnico II bar magnets and wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire. These pickups have also been read more slightly updated with wax potting, to eliminate squeal at high dynamic levels. The wiring is to the original specs, with independent volume and tone controls on each pickup, as well as a three-way toggle selector switch.

Lyre Tailpiece and Vintage-Style Hardware

The Gibson SG Original is distinguished further with its vibrola tailpiece and Lyre-style cover. Working in sync with a tight Gibson USA Tune-o-Matic bridge, the Lyre vibrato gives you a whole new realm of playing and expression to explore. The tuning machines themselves are a set of genuine TonePros vintage-style tuners, with a 16:1 turning ratio, ensuring a precise tune that will stand up to your vibrato playing!

I'm very pleased with this purchase.
Sound
This is exactly what I expect from current, humbucker-equipped Gibson solid-body. Straightforward with quite a bit of "oomph."
Features
The tone woods look to be high quality. The finish is classic cherry and flawless. You're not gonna dive-bomb with the tremolo, but it's nice to have as an option and even if you never touch it, it's worth having as it seems to balance the guitar better than other SGs I've played: the alarming tendency of the headstock plummeting towards the floor unless the neck is supported is gone.
Ease of Use
You can't beat this guitar for access to the upper frets. Good, playable action right out of the carton and it should play like a dream with some tweaking.
Quality
The guitar played with decent action out of box. The frets are nicely dressed. No problem with the wiring. The finish is fine...It's obviously a well-crafted instrument.
Value
I'm very satisfied with the price considering the materials and quality of the construction. Made in the USA!
Manufacturer Support
I have not had any contact w/ the company and don't anticipate needing to in the future.
The Wow Factor
The heavyweights of the era of rock that most influenced my playing all played SGs.

Musical Background:

I've played guitar nearly 40 years, having fun and making a little extra bread.

Musical Style:

Classic rock, blues, etc.
