This left-handed version of the Gibson 2013 SG Standard electric guitar looks and sounds as devilish as always. Ever since Gibson first released the SG design in 1961, players have appreciated its light, fast playing both onstage and in the studio. The lefty 2013 SG Standard comes with two switchable Gibson '57 Classic pickups onboard, to deliver all the classic tones that have made this instrument a legend.
The neck on the Gibson 2013 SG Standard adopts the slim-profile design that emerged in the later 1960s. This makes the neck notably slimmer than the rounded shape found on the 50s-era instruments. Staying true to the original 1961 SG design, nine trapezoidal inlays accent the bound rosewood fretboard. The headstock is finished to match the body. A mother-of-pearl Gibson logo inlaid at the center of the headstock stamps this instrument with a pedigree of peerless quality.
Solid Design for Tight Tone
The 24.75-inch-scale mahogany neck is glued in a deep-set, long-tenon neck/body joint with a 17-degree back-angled headstock. The body and neck are balanced to achieve perfect cross-transference of resonance where they meet at the 19th fret, sealed with Franklin Titebond 50 glue -- one of the strongest industrial wood glues in the world. A 1-11/16" wide Corian nut completes the equation. This solid neck-to-body jointing and precise alignment is something that you can distinctly feel as you play the 2013 SG Standard. "SG" stands for Solid Guitar, and its responsive action that you feel in your hands is why this instrument has a reputation for such playability -- musicians don't love it just for those cool little bat wings on top.
Classic Electronics With Subtle Updates
The Gibson 2013 SG Standard comes stacked with a pair of Gibson '57 Classic pickups -- a recreation of Gibson's famous PAF humbucker of the late 1950s. With the three-way toggle switch and Tone and Volume knobs on each pickup, you can dial up everything from cool, clean blues tones to thrashing power chords. The stopbar tailpiece is matched perfectly with one of Gibson's legendary Tune-o-matic bridges, yielding maximal sustain and a distinctive singing tone. The ivory-colored tuning knobs display vintage styling through and through. A black hardshell case is included.

The Gibson SG Standard Left Handed Electric Guitar captures the classic looks, tone, feel and vibe of the very first SG's produced in the early 60's. The original early 60's pickguard returns to the lefty SG Standard to give it the old school look favored by countless players from then until now. Gibson USA also gives this axe a slim '60s profile neck with a smaller early '60s headstock, dual '57 Classic humbuckers, and genuine TonePros vintage-style tuners. Kudos to Gibson for making all the finishes available for lefties!
Gibson uses a Grade-A solid mahogany body crafted in the distinctive, thin asymmetrical dual-cutaway style, with iconic pointed horns and beveled edges to enhance playing comfort. The lefty SG Standard also has a solid, Grade-A, quarter-sawn mahogany neck which is glued into the body and has a fast, slim '60s profile. It is topped with a bound fingerboard made from genuine Grade-A rosewood with 22 medium-jumbo frets, and traditional trapezoid inlays. The smaller vintage-style headstock has the classic mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and holly inlays.
The left handed SG Standard packs some serious vintage tone with a pair of '57 Classic humbucking pickups, some of the most popular recreations of vintage PAF humbuckers available today. These great pickups use genuine Alnico II bar magnets and are wound with 42-AWG enamel-coated wire for the characteristic blend of warmth and creaminess that made original PAFs legendary. An independent volume and tone control per pickup plus a three-way toggle selector switch allows a broad range of sonic variations.
Gibson USA loads the SG Standard guitar with a Tune-o-Matic bridge, Stopbar tailpiece and a set of genuine TonePros vintage-style tuners, a hardware set that partners up for solid sustain and precision tuning. Put it all together, and the lefty SG Standard presents a great incarnation of the iconic original, bringing the look, feel, and sound to the hands of players of today.
