Classic Construction

The Les Paul '70s Tribute guitar features all the same details which helped its predecessors shape the sound of the '70s. The combination of a mahogany body with a solid maple top grants rich total depth which cheaper, single-wood or laminate construction simply can't match. Traditional weight relief in the mahogany body makes the instrument lighter and gives it unique overtones. The solid mahogany neck sports 22 medium-jumbo frets and trapezoidal inlays for a vintage look and feel. The Les Paul '70s Tribute's neck is also period-accurate, with a medium '70s neck profile that measures 0.81" at the 1st fret and 0.93" at the 12th fret. Even the headstock is retro -- adorned with gold silk-screened logos and angled slightly backwards with a '70s style volute, giving the neck that vintage thin-to-thick profile.

A Tribute to the 1970s

Gibson introduced the Les Paul '70s Tribute to honor the heavy rock sounds of the 1970s so closely associated with the Les Paul. Equipped with dual high-output uncovered Gibson Dirty Fingers humbucking pickups -- some of the hottest read more pickups Gibson has ever designed -- this axe has a voice of its own. Independent tone and volume controls for each pickup and a three-way selector switch put the player in control of endless tonal possibilities. This Guitar screams. Most of my other LP's and Jacksons have Dimarzio Super Distortions in the bridge and this thing blows them away. Dirty fingers pickups are extremely hot. Its very easy for this guitar to " get away " from you if not careful. The min-etune system leaves alot to be desired. Not very accurate and not easy to use live unless you have a phographic memory to memorize the entire manual. With that said, its easy to get " close " to the tuning you want, then fine tune from there. Out of the box the action was fine for me ( subjective from player to player )and intonation was dead on. Neck is extremely comfortable. If I were to get another, it would be without the tuning system. Throw a set of grovers on it and wail away! Gibson could have packaged it with a case, but they were being cheap. Like I said earlier, this guitar is not for the timid. Caution needs to be used as it can feedback very easy with the hot pickups.
