Head Back to the 1950s -- With Some Modern Tonal Upgrades, Too

If you're attracted to the notorious facets of Gibson's original Les Paul Standards -- known for their legendary tone, feel and image -- then the 2014 Les Paul Traditional will give you a great mixture of celebrated historical representation and new 120th anniversary features. Its non-weight-relieved maple-topped mahogany body will resonate your playing in a fashion true to the iconic sound that's shaped the world of music for over half a century. And, with features like Orange Drop capacitors and brand-new '59 Tribute humbuckers, you'll have a lot of new ground to explore when you plug in and play your new 2014 Les Paul Standard.

Learn more about the Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional guitar:

'50s Rounded Neck and Solid Resounding Body

The 2014 Les Paul Traditional has a non-weight-relieved mahogany body -- meaning there are no lightweight relief chambers. What you have is just a solid body of mahogany wood with a maple top. You'll know what that extra weight is adding sonically when you hear the sustain and resonance as you play. If you're not particularly into the slim taper '60s necks, you'll prefer this baby's thicker glued-in rounded '50s profile neck -- more mahogany in the neck means more resonance and longer sustain. Like the other 2014 Gibson releases, the rosewood fretboard's 22 frets are cryogenically frozen to stand up to wear-and-tear and corrosion, which gives your neck a longer lifespan.

Brand New '59 Tribute Humbuckers

Gibson brings you a pair of brand-new '59 Tribute humbuckers for this 2014 release. What you get is that classic PAF sound you'll recognize from Gibson's golden day models of the late '50s. Specifically, these pickups feature Alnico II magnets, and the coils are asymmetrically wound, so you get a beefier, hotter, and more unique sound. A great and crunchy distortion and a raw to sparkly clean tone that can get pretty bluesy will be what you hear when you play your licks up and down the traditionally bound fretboard.

Solid Hardware and Orange Drop Capacitors

The chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar will add better tonal balance and sustain to your already resounding non-weight-relieved mahogany body. Also, solid wiring and Gibson's choice to use Orange Drop capacitors give your guitar's sound a little extra mid-range boost when you roll back your tone knob. In the end, as your signal makes its way through your cable, pedals, and amplifier, you won't have to worry about any signal loss. You can count on your tone being consistent in strength and drive if you choose to include a large pedal board in your chain of gear.

Features:

- Two brand-new '59 Tribute humbuckers
- Dual tone and dual volume knobs
- Three-setting pickup selector switch
- Maple-topped non-weight-relieved mahogany body
- Maple glued-in '50s rounded profile neck
- Rosewood traditionally bound fretboard
- 22 cryogenically frozen corrosion-resistant frets
- Chrome tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar
- Tektoid nut
- Orange Drop capacitors
- Larger strap buttons for greater strap security
- Gibson's 120th anniversary inlay at 12th fret
- Hardshell case included

Get back to Gibson's golden days of the late '50s with this modern release celebrating Gibson's 120th anniversary. With brand-new pickups, solid hardware, Orange Drop capacitors in the wiring, and a non-weight-relieved mahogany body, the 2014 Les Paul Traditional will get that great vintage sound that's combined with a nice set of modern features. Celebrate rock in classic style with this fantastic release.

Product Description

While celebrating 120 years of invention and innovation in 2014, Gibson USA knows that plenty of players still want an iconic Les Paul that rocks with a traditional tone and feel, in the image of the guitars that crafted the classic hits that shaped popular music. The Les Paul Traditional 2014 brings you all the legendary ingredients of the finest Les Paul Standards, along with a host of 120th Anniversary features that help to make this the best value yet in a genuine Gibson Les Paul.

From its solid (non-weight-relieved) mahogany body and carved AA figured maple top, to its rounded late-'50s neck profile, to its two '59 Tribute humbucking pickups, to its cream binding and gold Speed Knobs, the Les Paul Traditional totally nails the tone and feel of the legendary Les Pauls of the late '50s.

Then add in larger no-slip strap buttons, a Tektoid nut, long-life proprietary coated guitar strings, cryogenic treated fret wire for longer life and corrosion resistance, a full PLEK setup, a 120th Anniversary logo inlay at the 12th fret, and a vintage-brown hardshell case with pink lining to take your Les Paul into the present.

Body and Neck

The Les Paul Traditional 2014 is crafted in the image of the original Les Paul Standard. It's made from a solid mahogany back with no weight relief for a solid and sustaining tone, with a carved AA figured maple top; the glued-in mahogany neck features a comfortably rounded late-'50s profile. The bound rosewood fingerboard is topped with a Tektoid nut, carries 22 cryogenic-treated frets for long life and corrosion resistance, and incorporates traditional trapezoid inlays with a commemorative 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and Electronics

The guitar carries a pair of Gibson's '59 Tribute humbucking pickups, designed and constructed in the image of the legendary PAF humbuckers of the late '50s. They're wired through the traditional four-knob control section and three-way selector switch, with Orange Drop capacitors on the tone pots.

Hardware

A chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor it all down for outstanding resonance and sustain, while TonePros vintage tuners maintain a traditional look up top. Enlarged strap buttons keep your guitar secure throughout the set. Vintage-cream binding, pickguard, and pickup rings, with gold Speed Knobs, provide a further visual link to the Les Pauls of the '50s.

Case and Coverage

The Les Paul Traditional 2014 comes protected in a vintage-brown Gibson hardshell case with pink lining, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner's manual, and is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson's 24/7/365 Customer Service.

Overall: ordered my 2014 les paul traditional on 3-17-2014, got it 3//22/2014 in afternoon, took it straight to the gig and proceeded to rock the casbah. Man what an axe, they ain't enough words to state the obvious and this is a phenomenal axe period.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "Traditional tone, feel, and weight"
Overall: Having played several Les Pauls over the years I became less than impressed with the direction Gibson went with the Standard line. In my mind, THIS guitar is what a Les Paul Standard should be: a solid, heavy, beautiful tone machine. Don't get me wrong, I have a 2013 Gibson Custom Les Paul Axcess stoptail that has all the modern updates, a slightly slimmer body, belly scarf, and heel-less construction (and I love that guitar); but I wanted a Les Paul that could serve as a gig partner with it, that really brings the vintage vibe. This Les Paul Traditional does that and more. The sustain is incredible, the neck is as flawless as my Custom Shop guitar, and the '59 pickups really bite with a Led Zepp snarl. Also, this guitar looks every bit as good as my Axcess and I love the Tobacco burst finish. If you're looking for the authentic 1959 Les Paul tone, feel, looks, and attitude without having to shell out the big bucks for a VOS model, look no further and buy it today!
