Whether you want your sound to be clean or gritty, the 2013 Les Paul Traditional delivers.

Time-Honored Tonewoods and Specs

Easy on the eyes and hands, the 2013 Les Paul Traditional features a carved top of solid figured maple and a solid mahogany non-weight-relieved back. You won't find any laminated pieces here; this electric guitar is made of pure wood. Its tonewood combination of mahogany and maple stays true to the traditional makeup of the original Les Paul Standard from way back when, offering players the solid feel and crisp articulation of a classic guitar.

Rounded Late '50s Neck Profile

The instrument's mahogany neck is topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and trapezoid inlays. Keeping things traditional, the 2013 Les Paul Traditional sports the rounded late-'50s neck shape so popular in past Les Pauls, a 24 3/4" scale length, a 1 11/16" width across the Plek-cut Corian nut, and a 12" fingerboard radius for smooth bending. Other notable features include cream read more body and fingerboard binding, pickguard, and pickup rings, plus gold Speed knobs with dial pointers.

Warm '57 Classic Pickups

The 2013 Les Paul Traditional's '57 Classic and '57 Classic Plus pickups recall the sound of Gibson's original PAF -- Seth Lover's original humbucker design, and the company's gold standard for guitar pickups. These chrome-covered pickups are made in the style of the hallowed PAF humbucker of the late '50s with Alnico II magnets, with a traditional wind in the neck position, and slightly over-wound coils in the '57 Classic Plus in the bridge position. With these dual-coil babies onboard, you get a guitar that oozes mellow warmth and clarity along with just the right amount of crunchiness for your rock-out moments.

Knowing that most guitarists would want to go over the top during live performances and recording sessions, Gibson wax-potted both pickups to help avoid microphonic squeal at high volume levels. Each pickup is routed through Orange Drop capacitors to their individual tone knobs for smooth high-end roll-off. A Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece round out the electric guitar, providing solid sustain and accurate intonation.

The Les Paul Traditional's tonewood combination retains the great sound of the original Les Paul Standard, with an unchambered back for a thick, meaty tone and superb sustain. It's rounded late-'50s neck shape reflects one of the most popular profiles ever used on a Les Paul. All this, and the Les Paul Traditional looks outrageous with its Grade-AA figured maple top, all in high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer.

Body

The Les Paul Traditional is built on a foundation of the same traditional tonewood combination that helped to make the Les Paul Standard legendary when it first arrived six decades ago. Ordered Guitar and processing took about 12-24 hours. Shipping and receiving was very quick. Opened guitar to find it used. I am not too picky about this sort of thing as Left handed guitars are hard to come by but it was in pretty used shaped almost as if it was a demo unit. The bridge was almost falling off it was so high, the pickups were also at the highest amount and were hitting the strings. Prior to the full set-up I did the D string had an awful ringing or ping sound. I believed it is from the nut. After set-up ping is still there. The condition of the guitar as stated before was used. Minor blemishes around the mahogany body, tuners were slightly lose. No factory stickers were on the guitar or case as Gibson usually has on new models. As stated before I am not too picky about this sort of thing since the guitar will have much more wear within a few months of road playing. As well the price is perfect. Hopefully I can get that ping sound out of the D string soon.

Sound
D string makes a ping sound. Even after set-up. Will have to take to guitar shop to get looked at. Would be perfect if not for this.

Features
The fact it does not have weight relief was the biggest thing. That classic 57 pickup sound from a solid body is amazing.

Ease of Use
The neck is exactly the fit I was looking for. I am not a big pedal masher and like to use knobs the knobs on this are easy to use since they read more have the little metal arrows.

Quality
Well Gibson quality has not been 100% as of late. I do not know if it was Zzounds or Gibson on this one but Quality was less than expected.

Value
It is one of the most expensive Left handed guitars that is not a custom or special signature series available today. Yet, other companies that do custom electric guitars tend to have better quality. For a fraction of the price.

Manufacturer Support
I have contact Gibson before when first looking for a Left handed guitar their response was less than helpful. Rather not ever deal with them again.

The Wow Factor
I have three Les Pauls. The fact this one is not weight relieved was the biggest seller. Yes it is heavy but it has one of the greatest tones I have heard in a modern guitar.

Musical Background:
Play with church, been playing guitar since youth.

Musical Style:
classic rock, jazz, blues, Christian
