Rock 'n' Roll's Most Classic Guitar -- Still Rocking in 2017!

When it comes to electric guitars, few instruments could claim to be as "classic" as the Gibson Les Paul -- and the Gibson 2017 Les Paul Classic T electric guitar is a true tribute to rock 'n' roll history. Since its introduction in 1952, the Gibson Les Paul has represented the epitome of classic rock instruments. From Led Zeppelin to Guns N' Roses, many rock guitar heroes have carried a Les Paul. With warm humbucker tones, a luscious resonance, and legendary sustain, all thanks to its iconic solidbody form, the Gibson Les Paul is one guitar that simply screams rock 'n' roll.

Traditional Craftsmanship

Using the same design specs as the 1950s Les Paul guitars, the 2017 Les Paul Classic T has been painstakingly crafted to be true to the original. From the classic single-cutaway solidbody to Gibson '57 Classic humbuckers, effort has been made to recreate a Les Paul guitar that's true-to-form. It's even equipped with vintage-style hand-wired electronics, giving this instrument a vintage tone which simply can't be matched by other instruments. Traditional 9-hole weight relief takes off some of the weight of the mahogany body, without disrupting the guitar's solid feel.

High-tech Finishing Touch

While Gibson made every effort to make the 2017 Les Paul Classic T true to tradition, it actually includes the best of old-school design and new-school technology. Since 2014, Gibson USA has been outfitting all their guitars with a PLEK setup -- a process by which all the frets on the neck are fine-tuned using 3D modeling and high-precision computer-controlled fret grinding. After which, each neck is polished by hand, resulting in the most accurate and playable neck you've probably ever experienced.

Features:

- Gibson Traditional-series Les Paul Classic 6-string electric guitar
- Mahogany Les Paul-shaped solid body guitar with select high-gloss nitro lacquer finish
- Slim taper mahogany neck with select finish
- Set-in neck with single action truss rod
- 24.75-inch scale rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-sized frets, trapezoidal pearloid inlays, 12-inch radius, and rolled edges

- Traditional 9-hole weight relief
- Pickups: Gibson Zebra '57 Classic humbucker in the neck position and Gibson Zebra '57 Classic Plus humbucker in the bridge position

Gibson 2017 Les Paul Classic T

The Gibson Les Paul Classic 2017 T riffs on the beloved guitars of the '60s and '70s while adding modern upgrades for tone and playability, yielding a true Classic with contemporary twists. A Grade-A plain maple top on a mahogany back with 9-hole weight relief combine for subtle beauty with enhanced resonance and superb playing comfort. The solid-mahogany neck has a fast slim-taper profile, a thicker rosewood fingerboard with 22 super-smooth polished frets for easy bends, and a genuine nylon nut. Zebra '57 Classic humbuckers with orange drop tone caps ensure sultry PAF-like voicings, while a nickel wired ABR bridge and aluminum stopbar combine for solid sustain. Gibson USA gently rolls the fingerboard binding for a neck that never felt so good, and Grover locking kidney tuners provide an accurate and long-lasting performance. Gold speed knobs add an elegant touch.

zZounds has verified that this customer bought this product from us. "Awesome LP!! LOVE IT!!"
Overall: Well, first of all...it's a Gibson LP. There are certain qualities expected from us consumers. I received mine for Christmas and so let me break down some details. I'll share with you what I like and don't.OVERALL: Plays and feels great as one would expect from a Gibson LP. Looking for that classic LP sound to nail the sounds of the Zeppelin, Boston, AC/DC, GNR, Sabbath, Rush, Journey, era? Well, you'll certainly get it from this 2017 Classic T LP with its nice Classic 57 pickups. The Goldtop is certainly beautiful. The body is much lighter than the original with its new 9 holes design. The thinner neck from the original 50s style feels fantastic.QUALITY: Well, not as nice as I expected from a guitar that is over $2k. The first one I got had some bad staining work just on the underside below the base of the guitar neck. It looked like the white plastic trim got sloppy and got smeared onto the body...but as I started to look really carefully, I realized it was a 3 inch long flaw (roughly around 1/10" - 1/6" thick) in the staining process along the side of the plastic trim (on the body) and it did not get properly stained..and you can still see a good section of that flaw. It made it look like someone got really drunk the night before and here he/she is doing the finish work. Wow, I can't believe this actually passed quality. THEN, here's the worst part, the frets located below the second string had major buzzes between the 14th - 19th frets. It was so poorly dressed and leveled that you can't even pick a note between these frets, because all the notes here rested almost completely over a single bad fret when pressing down to strike a note. Because of this, I believe when Gibson was setting it up at the manufacture, they purposely set the actions really high to bi-pass the buzzes. ...and so it passed quality. ..and so, just by me dropping the action down a little was enough to expose the bad fret(s). I was quite disappointed. But thank goodness zZounds' great return policy allowed me to have another one shipped out to me and arrived at my door step in only 5 days (including the weekend). WELL, I opened the box and inspected this new one...and my god, it has a similar flaw in the same area (as described above) only not as obvious...and the flaw was a lot fainter and a bit more narrow. Because it is a Gibson LP that cost me alot of $$$, I didn't expect to see the same flaw right in the same area. I didn't bother to return it...I figured it is a flaw I can live with. My thought was, TWO guitars with similar flaws - well, it was enough for me to believe that this model will likely have similar flaws even if I returned it again for another one. BUT what is important to me now is that the frets are not bad and I can drop the actions down to my liking without issues. The rest of the body looks great though. This is one reason I don't usually give manufacturers a perfect 5 STAR in qualities, because technically, there really is no such a thing as something being built, "flawlessly." Not true as there are always minor scratches, chips, over/under finish sections in certain areas, and minor buzzes here and there in certain frets. So when other reviewers say that there guitar looks "flawless," it's subjective. You will always find some little thing wrong/flawed about it. It's really up to you to decide if you can live with it (IMO).
