A versatile workhorse guitar that's fit for any occasion, this Les Paul is a player's dream, offering classic looks, rich tone, collectible value -- and new-for-2014 features.

The Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic has hardware and features you might expect in a $4,000 guitar -- but costs half that. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own 120 years of guitar-building excellence!

Mahogany Body and Neck with Figured Maple Top

Constructed in the image of the original Les Paul Standard, the Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic features a solid mahogany body with traditional weight relief for the ultimate in rich tone and comfort. You'll be sure to turn heads with the Les Paul Classic's gorgeous carved figured-maple top -- highly prized for its looks, density and tone.

The glued-in mahogany neck gives you endless sustain, allowing the entire guitar to sing with maximum wood volume, while the '60s neck profile is perfect for moving across the frets quickly in leads, bends, and complex chords.

Rosewood Fretboard, GraphTech Nut and Custom Inlay

The bound rosewood fretboard pairs beautifully with the maple top's tone, offering warm, complex overtones that enhance the tonal beauty of this incredible guitar. At the top of the fretboard, you'll find a GraphTech nut. A read more third-party alternative to a standard plastic nut, this upgraded nut provides sturdy string positioning and all the tonal benefits of ivory in a synthetic material that is more sustainable, consistent and reliable.

22 cryogenically treated frets allow you to bend, squeal, sweat, and abuse your frets without fearing premature degradation and corrosion. Gibson luthiers undercut these frets and placed them over the neck binding, allowing you to fly across the fretboard without coming into contact with the fret edges. The fretboard is finished off with traditional trapezoid inlays and a commemorative "120th Anniversary" 12th fret inlay, making this Les Paul an instant collector's item -- at a gigging musician's price.

Pickups: '57 Classic Humbucker + Coil-Tappable Super '57

There is just something about the '57 Classic humbucking pickup and the Les Paul -- their tonal flavors just work together in harmony. So, how does Gibson expand the sonic palette of the Les Paul without abandoning the recipe that makes it great? With the Super '57! The Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic features a standard '57 Classic humbucker in the neck position, and updates the bridge slot with a Super '57.

The Super '57 is a four-conductor version of the '57 Classic, with a hotter output. The Super '57 also gives you the option of splitting the humbucker into a single-coil pickup via its push-pull volume control. The pairing of the '57 Classic and souped-up Super '57 puts a world of tone at your fingertips, and adds to the versatility and workhorse mentality of this art-piece-quality instrument.

+15 dB Gain Toggle Switch and Orange Drop Tone Capacitor

You may have asked yourself where the Les Paul Classic's second tone control is. Always thinking ahead of the curve, Gibson has incorporated a +15 dB toggle switch that gives you an instant gain boost, further expanding your tonal options. Looking for a tone somewhere between clean and full-on distortion? Simply toggle your +15 dB boost to overdrive your preamp tubes for a harmonically rich, crunchy tone that retains all the fullness of your amp's clean channel, with just the right amount of dirt.

As any experienced player knows, a single-coil pickup typically has a much lower output than a humbucker. Here's where the +15 dB gain switch really comes in handy: if you split your bridge humbucker and engage the gain boost, you'll be wielding incredible single-coil tone that doesn't suffer from a drop in gain. This is essential for players who want to keep saturation, gain, and effects mixes consistent, all while wildly altering their tone on the fly.

Gibson has also incorporated one of the most sought-after aftermarket mods of all time: the Orange Drop capacitor. The Orange Drop cap allows you to roll off the high frequencies smoothly while keeping a consistent rolloff characteristic across the tone knob's range. As an example, the reduction in high-frequency content from 10 to 8 is the same amount of reduction you'll hear from 4 to 2. We won't bore you with the math, but trust us -- it's what you want in a tone pot.

Tune-o-Matic Bridge, Kluson Deluxe and Larger Strap Buttons

The Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic comes with a standard chrome Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, maximizing sustain and ensuring string position integrity. Kluson tuners offer classic style with maximum tuning stability, and enlarged strap buttons keep your strap in position, no matter how wildly you play your Les Paul. Rounded off with vintage creme binding, pickguard and pickup rings, this guitar oozes with vintage attitude -- but screams with modern tone.

Gibson 2014 Les Paul Classic

Orville Gibson invented the archtop guitar in 1894. Gibson unveiled the world's most desirable solidbody electric guitar in 1952. Now 120 years after it all started, Gibson USA brings you this incarnation of the Les Paul in a next-generation guitar that marries legendary tone and feel with 21st century innovation -- and astounding value.

The Les Paul Classic 2014 captures all the essential elements that made the vintage "Burst" the icon that it is, while adding a host of features released to coincide with Gibson USA's 120th Anniversary celebration, making it a superbly versatile guitar for today's player. The package includes larger no-slip strap buttons, gold Max Grip Speed Knobs, a GraphTech nut, long-life proprietary coated guitar strings, cryogenic treated fret wire for longer life and corrosion resistance, undercut frets over neck binding, a full PLEK setup, a 120th Anniversary logo inlay at the 12th fret, and a vintage-brown hardshell case with pink lining.

The Les Paul Classic's hot-modded electronics take it from this impressive foundation to a whole other level. Two upgraded zebra-coil pickups with push-pull coil splitting, a built-in 15 dB boost on a mini-toggle switch, and a master tone pot with Orange Drop capacitor yield an astounding array of tones. The legendary pairing of Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, with vintage Tone Pro Keys, anchor it all down for optimum resonance and sustain. Add it up, and the Les Paul Classic 2014 offers unbeatable value in a cutting-edge update of the iconic Les Paul Standard.

Body and Neck

The Les Paul Classic 2014 is crafted in the image of the original Les Paul Standard. It's made from a solid mahogany back with traditional weight relief for a lighter strapped-on feel, with a carved figured maple top (other than guitars finished in Ebony). It has a glued-in mahogany neck with a 60's profile. The bound rosewood fingerboard is topped with a GraphTech nut, and carries 22 cryogenic-treated frets for long life and corrosion resistance, undercut frets over neck binding, with traditional trapezoid inlays and a commemorative 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and Electronics

The guitar carries a pair of legendary Gibson humbuckers, a '57 Classic in the neck position and a hotter Super 57 in the bridge. They have independent volume controls with push-pull coil splitting, a built-in 15 dB boost on a mini-toggle switch, a master tone pot with Orange Drop capacitor, and a three-way selector switch.

Hardware

A chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor it all down for outstanding resonance and sustain, while vintage Tone Pro keys provide outstanding tuning stability. Enlarged strap buttons keep your guitar secure throughout the set. Vintage-cream binding, pickguard, and pickup rings provide a visual link to the Les Pauls of the '50s, while Max Grip gold speed knobs keep you sure-fingered on the controls.

Case and Coverage

The Les Paul Classic 2014 comes protected in a vintage-brown Gibson hardshell case with pink lining, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner's manual, and is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson's 24/7/365 Customer Service.

I got the Vintage Sunburst model about a week ago, and have since put the guitar through it's paces. I had returned a 2014 studio, so making the jump to this price and level held pretty high expectations, and it passed them. I couldn't be happier.

Sound
The classic 57 and Super 57 pickups sound incredible. Having owned a 2014 studio for a short time, I wasn't very excited about the coil split, but the LP Classic's coil split sounds great, much more of a Les Paul p90 sound when split(don't expect strat tones from this body type).

Features
The Weight relief is nice. do keep in mind though, that you can pcik your model on ZZounds, and the weights I saw varied from 8.4 lbs to 10.1lbs. If you prefer the heaver feel, go for it. DB Boost switch is nice, and helps push tubes harder(At bedroom level, this is a nice feature, but beware when using on clean channel). I see using it more as always on or off, than for soloing, as the switch is a bit awkward to hit while playing(for me anyways).

Quality
The quality really shows in this product, from the finish, to the feel. Set up was great out of the box, I didn't have to adjust the neck, action, or intonation. Just tune up, and rock out.

Value
This is a great value. If you are die hard LP traditionalist(wanting NIBs and a fourth tone control), you'll want to make the step up to Traditional. I've played a lot of read more Fenders in my day, so I'm used to just one tone control. That being said, this is the best guitar I've ever owned, and totally worth the money(you get what you pay for). Also the case is really nice.

The Wow Factor
This guitar definitely has wow factor visually and sonically.
