I'll be honest...I've had issues with many of the decisions that Gibson has made in recent years and with their quality control for quite a few years.I will put my new ES339 in the upper 90% overall.I only say this because the one major flaw (which was a poorly dressed nut)I was able to fix myself.ZZounds did make a generous offer to replace the guitar if I wanted or have it fixed. I am a sucker for details on a guitar in this price range,so a small thing like having the wrong pickup ring on the neck pickup makes me kinda raise an eyebrow. However, the really important part makes up the 90%...which is sound and playability. After fixing the nut and a simple setup, the guitar plays phenomenaly. The Burstbuckers seem to mate perfectly with the personality of the guitar...perfectly quiet and capable of handling any level of volume or gain.I set the neck nearly dead straight with a pretty low action and have no buzzing. The frets are smooth and beautiful and the small blocks set perfectly into a gorgeous dark unstreaked rosewood fingerboard.Last but not least is the rather sinister flat black finish...it just screams 50's ratrod cool!I will continue to hold on to the hope that Gibson will redeem themselves in the future...because if not, there is a guy in Maryland that makes some exceptional guitars.
