What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Neck-through-body construction Longer sustain; strong midrange; smooth feel
Mahogany wings Rich, warm tone and smooth resonance
Firebird Mini humbucker pickup Classic Firebird tone: plenty of punch and clarity
Steinberger gearless tuners High 40:1 tuning ratio for unparalleled accuracy

With a design that once set the guitar world aflame, the Gibson Firebird has endured as a favorite among players who appreciate a unique shape and incredibly clear sound. Gibson has updated the 2014 Firebird with Steinberger gearless tuners and a wider fretboard to give guitarists an even more player-friendly model.

In Line with Classic Design

In its time, the Firebird was a radical guitar shape, but players soon discovered its comfort and sonic advantages. The 2014 Firebird keeps that same shape, with mahogany wings attached to a nine-ply mahogany and walnut neck that boldly runs all the way through the body. This design ensures your notes ring out for miles by promoting resonance. The neck is cut in a slim profile for a more modern feel and topped with a rosewood fretboard. The 22 frets run over the neck's binding, giving players a wider playing surface.

Clear Sound, Plenty of Power

Like its predecessors, the 2014 Firebird features two mini-humbucker pickups and three-way switching. You'll instantly be set apart when audiences hear this model's unique sonic character -- a sound that's somewhere between a full humbucker and a single-coil. Mini humbuckers are renowned for giving Firebirds a bell-like clarity, made even more apparent when both pickups are blended. Don't let the "mini" moniker fool you, however -- when it's time to rock, these pickups deliver with plenty of roar. The two volume and tone controls provide you with plenty of tone sculpting control. read more

Tradition, Innovation Shine in Components

The 2014 Firebird largely sticks to tradition, and its hardware is no exception. A Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece give that familiar sustain and stability found on so many Gibson instruments. A more modern innovation comes with the Steinberger gearless tuners. Not only do they keep the iconic headstock shape looking clean, but provide efficient and accurate tuning.

Gibson 2014 Firebird Electric Guitar

As Gibson celebrates its 120th Anniversary, few guitars embody the spirit of revolutionary style and pure design innovation like the Firebird. Forged amid the chrome and tail fins of Detroit in the early '60s, the "reverse bodied" Firebird has since become a genuine icon of rock and blues, and a timeless classic.

The Firebird for 2014 from Gibson USA captures all the look, tone, and feel of the great vintage originals, backed with the cumulative experience of the world's most respected guitar maker to create a powerful, versatile guitar for today's demanding player--and all at an unbeatable price for a hand-made-in-America electric guitar.

Classic Firebird specs include the nine-ply mahogany and walnut "through-neck" construction with mahogany wings, the reverse six-in-line "beak" headstock, and the clear yet powerful Firebird mini-humbucking pickups. Innovations like super-efficient Steinberger gearless tuners and undercut frets over binding for added playing surface make this Firebird a better performer than ever, while a 120th Anniversary banner inlay at the 12th fret marks this exclusive edition.

Body and Neck

The nine-ply mahogany and walnut through-neck construction form a unified neck and body core for unparalleled strength and enhanced sustain. Two mahogany "wings" complete the iconic "reverse-body" styling. The slim Firebird neck profile is fast and comfortable, and the bound rosewood fingerboard carries 22 frets undercut over the vintage-cream binding, traditional trapezoid inlays, and a 120th Anniversary inlay at the 12th fret.

Pickups and Electronics

Gibson's two Firebird mini-humbuckers generate a bright, yet powerful, tone that takes you from twang and jangle to all out crunch and scream. They're wired through the traditional complement of independent volume and tone controls, and a three-way selector switch.

Hardware and Plastics

A chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece anchor it all down for outstanding resonance and sustain. Steinberger(TM) gearless tuners provide highly efficient tuning while preserving the headstock's stylish lines. A white pickguard with Firebird graphic, black top-hat knobs with silver inserts, and a black truss-rod cover with Gibson logo complete the package.

Case and Coverage

The 2014 Firebird comes protected in a vintage-brown Gibson hardshell case, includes a truss-rod wrench and owner's manual, and is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Gibson's 24/7/365 Customer Service.

Overall I like playing the Fire bird. The 60's style neck fits pretty good with my hands. Normally i like a 50's Fatter Neck. Sounds Fantastic.
Sound
The Mini humbuckers have a distinct sound. I have them on my Original 1962 Epiphone Crestwood Custom. They have a sharper bite on the Bridge Pickup but can be dialed down for the Neck Pickup..
Features
The Cable Plug is on the bottom edge instead of the original next to the Tone Controls on the face of the body. Never used this Type of Tuners. Lock tight and it stays in tune.
Ease of Use
Neck is easy to play. Can reach all the frets..
Quality
Perfect Finish, Beautiful Guitar.
Value
Price keeps going up, Maybe a bit higher than I would like..
Manufacturer Support
It's a Gibson. I would expect nothing less
The Wow Factor
Gorgeous Guitar. Has a 10 for a WOW Factor...
