By merging the best attributes of Gibson's legendary solid body and archtop electric guitars, the Midtown Standard and Midtown Custom of 2011 became instant hits with players of all stripes. This great guitar maintains its predecessors' trimmed-down and more player-friendly body size that still emulates the lines of Gibson's classic archtops, but which is built with the Midtown line's advanced chambered, solid-wood construction (rather than laminated top and back) to truly embody the optimum marriage of solid body and archtop. To take the Midtown Standard anywhere from raw vintage rock, blues and funk to contemporary jazz, Americana, or whatever you want to throw at it, Gibson USA loads the guitar with a pair of fat-and-rich-sounding Burstbucker 1 and 2 humbuckers and dresses it all in a hand-sprayed, high-gloss nitrocellulose finish in your choice of Vintage Sunburst, Pelham Blue or Ebony.

The Midtown Standard starts with premium tone woods, using Grade-A timbers beneath the transparent finish options (with Grade-C grain beneath the Pelham Blue and Ebony guitars). A solid mahogany body is strategically chambered for optimum resonance and capped with a solid maple top with traditional f-holes. Its solid mahogany neck is carved to a fast, comfortable '60s-style profile that measures .800" at the 1st fret and .875" at the 12th. The genuine rosewood fingerboard carries 22 medium-jumbo frets and is inlaid with acrylic dots, while cream binding enhances both fingerboard and body read more top. To best show off its great woods and luscious finishes, the Midtown Standard is built without a pickguard.

Plugged in, the Midtown Standard reveals its true glory via a pair of Gibson's legendary Burstbucker 1 and 2 Pickups. These beloved pickups have a fatter, richer tone, and provide everything from thick grit and snarl for rock 'n' roll, to rich, creamy warmth for jazz, to singing blues tones with great snappy and funky tones in between. For optimum resonance and sustain, the Midtown Standard carries the classic pairing of a Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece with a PLEK-cut Tektoid nut up top, partnered with the G-FORCE tuning system.

Each guitar comes protected in a plush-lined Hardshell case with black exterior and includes owner's manual and adjustment literature. Check out the Midtown Standard today and get ready to groove in Midtown style.

This guitar is really a hidden gem in the gibson world. I have everything from LP customs to a sweet 63' 335. This guitar is on par with my best. I head some QC issues with gibson on a 2014 plek'd lp neck that I've spent a fair amount of time working through and I'm happy to report that this guitar is does not suffer from the same troubles. I'm also glad that this guitar has an actual rosewood board. Richlite may be ok but I prefer wood. Also, the GeForce tuners work well. That said, they have to go. I'm sorry, after 20+ years of tuning guitars, I just like to tune my guitars the right way. I must admit though, I've done a ton of studio work with guitarists who couldn't tune a guitar as well as this system does. I didn't dock anything because it's a super simple (and inexpensive) swap to put standard Kluson or Grover tuners on it.

Musical Background:

I've been playing for 22 years, been a touring musician and currently do studio work.

Musical Style:

I play everything from hard rock to slow blues.
