I bought this bass last week as I was in the market and was wanting something different from my Fenders. This is my first GIbson I have ever owned and it certainly won't be my last. I was very skeptical about the short scale but the thick fingerboard and neck fit my left hand and my picking technique really well! The 30.5" scale gives this bass much play-ability and the neck is really quick. (I'm 6' with average/large hands and the 30.5 still feels great) You can get the action REALLY low without any buzz. My neck is almost totally straight and every note comes through very well. The electronics are sturdy and the pickups sound fantastic. You can get a good range of sound with the TBird plus and mini. This is the only bass I've heard that can come close to the deep low that my PBass produces. Using the treble pickup, you can get a nice smooth 'honky' sound. Playing high notes sound fantastic as you can go from a smooth, deep sound, all the way to a punchy, hard hitting sound. I've also noticed that the truss rod is very sturdy and doesn't easily bow back in. The turning ratio is also much higher than other truss rods so you can get a more precise bed/bow in the neck. The bass is very lightweight. I noticed the neck-dive (like any other SG model) but I easily fixed it with a nice suede strap. The finish looks amazing and the cosmetic features are better than any other instrument I've ever owned. This is now become my main bass alongside my 50's Pbass. I highly recommend this to read more any bass player that covers a wide genre of tunes and has the bread to spend on a quality, well detailed bass. Cheers :)
