GHS Eric Johnson Nickel Rockers Electric Guitar Strings

No longer available at zZounds
Just a touch warmer than standard Nickel Rockers, these Eric Johnson-approved semi-flat-wound GHS strings give you bright sound and precise intonation.

Rollerwound Pure Nickel. Wrapped with a round, pure nickel cover, which is slightly flattened by metal rollers during the winding process. Bright sounding, great-feeling strings.

"I've enjoyed using GHS Nickel Rockers for many years. The precise intonation, feel, and tone are what I have come to rely on. This is the particular guage set that I use for electric guitar because of its balance between string tension and sound. GHS Nickel Rockers have always been my favorite strings" -- Eric Johnson

The best strings for an experienced player using a detuning.

Sound
Thank you Eric and GHS for bringing back the semi-flat wound string, the only one I know that you can find. These strings are the best, they intonate and sound the best. The classic intonation problems on a strat are solved with these strings. The gauges are just perfect for balance and tone and as Eric points out the tension between strings is perfectly matched. I never noticed this before. Putting these on made an instant difference in the playability of the guitar and its tone. These strings are just a touch warmer on the tone chart than the regulat nickel rockers but this is a good thing. I do not know why one would want some of these overly bright strings. Most tube amps are too bright to begin with. Only the experienced player knows that using larger gauge and tuning down is the secret of more tone. I play a full step down and these guages are perfect for that lower tension and vibration of the strings. I have no issue with the brightness of these strings, I cannot tell a difference in that regard. Again if you are an experienced player, in over 30 years of playing heavier and fusion type music these strings are the best. I buy them 10 sets at a time to try and save some up in case they stop making them. These sound great with my advanced pedal board effects and combinations from clean to heavy univibe and flanged envelope filter tones they deliver teh truest intonated chords read more and note articulation.

Features
The gauges are perfect when playing detuned, I do not recommend standard tuning at this gauge. Eric must be playing detuned else I cannot see how he manages his technical feats. He is rather skinny to boot. I am a David Gilmor looking guy and I could bend them but it's too much on my tendons and pads. At a whole step detune they are perfect.

Ease of Use
Strings, no knobs. Doesn't get much easier.

Quality
I cannot imagine a better string. I always loved the old GHS Nickel Rockers Semi-flat wounds I used them for years, I never knew SRV and Eric used them as well. The EJ version is even better, the gauge tension and intonation is flawless. Play a chord at the 12th fret on the big E (D) and you can tell the quality of the tone, the feel, the note articulation is perfect.

Value
Would be worth 2x or more the current price but don't tell GHS. Buy these damn strings before they discontinue them again!!!

The Wow Factor
In 30+ years these are the best strings to be found. You will notice aan immediate difference when you put them on. I am a nut on proper intonation and a strat type huitare affords some problems on the E string at times. These string help solve the need for flattening the E string more. The gauge is perfect. Please note, these are too thick to play at standard pitch! Don't be a goof and use them in that manner and then complain about them. As for the "sexy" I have had my wife dancing around the room lately with my playing and she is something to see.
