Until Fulltone's OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Drive), pedals just couldn't hold up to what a high quality amp could do. You lose all the touch sensitivity and you can forget about those complex Harmonics. It's always been somewhat of a compromise using Overdrive pedals until now. The OCD is designed to replicate the dynamics and harmonic structure of an overdriven tube amp, it uses a unique multi-stage distortion circuit, as opposed to the more common diodes-in-feedback-loop/diodes-to-ground configurations. The designers at Fulltone made this pedal for themselves, but they'll let you use it too. And you'll love it!

AMPS...
If you've ever owned a GREAT amp, like a Marshall 18 watt, a VOX AC15, a Marshall JTM45 and if you have a place where you can crank them up loud, then you know what we're talking about. Smack a power chord and you (not only) hear the fundamental notes... but you get (count 'em) 4, 5, even 6 additional overtones ringing into a feedback... notes that you can whistle if your ear is good enough! Think; Led Zeppelin's Ocean, Custard Pie, Classic tones including James Gang, the Beatles, AC/DC, FREE., etc.

Back off the guitar's volume and there are a dozen great other sounds at your fingertips... Clean, spanky sounds, with all the highs and lows still intact. And a Tele still sounds like a Tele, a Les Paul like a Les Paul.

Frequently asked questions about Fulltone's OCD:

Q:The OCD has the brightest LED I've ever seen, it lights up my entire pedalboard, but there is NO POPPING sound like on my other booteek effects...is the OCD true bypass?
A: Yes it is true bypass, and thanks for noticing the no pop thing. Fulltone's designer invented an active anti-pop circuit (not simply resistors to ground ;) that eliminates almost all the snap, thump, and pop you're used to getting at higher volumes with true bypass pedals.

Q:The OCD is huge sounding, wide open sounding, why does it make my other Overdrives sound like there's a blanket over the speakers in comparison?
A: Because 99% of all pedals use clipping diodes to achieve their distortion, and the net result is you are lopping off the upper frequencies (harmonics) and most of the lower frequencies, leaving mostly only Midrange.

Q:You're right, but why don't I hear it with other overdrives?
A: Because your overdrives filter out (Lop off ) the upper harmonics, the upper frequencies, and mask your amp's fizziness. Just turn down the OCD's Tone control, which only affects those upper frequencies....or better yet, fix the amp.

Q:Is it ok to run the OCD higher than 9 volts?
A: Yes, you can run 9volts DC, 12volts DC, up to 18 volts DC, just make sure that the Center Pin of the adapter is Negative. BTW, you can't hurt the OCD by using the wrong adapter because it has special protective circuitry...if you use the wrong adapter it just won't work or it will hum, but you can't hurt it.

"O.C.D. IS ME"
Feature:
Like all FULLTONE products build quality is top notch.

Value:
Value is very good. I would buy another right away if needed.

Sound:
Fulltone products are simply some of the best. The O.C.D.is everything that they advertise it to be.This pedal works great with my VOX WAH,MXR CARBON COPY,UNI-VIBE and FULLTONE OCTAFUZZ.STRAT owners will love it.I play thru a MARSHALL and a FENDER tube amp with equal results.

Ease of Use:
Toggle the LP/HP switch and get a warm tube sound on LP or more of a MARSHALL tone on the HP setting.

Overall:
All in all I must say that the O.C.D. is better than any similar pedal I've owned over the last 25 years.

"The OCD should be on your pedalboard"
Feature:
I give it a 9 in features because it does not have a 3 Band EQ. Otherwise, the pedal has the requisite volume, gain, and tone controls. The OCD is true-bypass, so if you have a lot of pedals or long cable runs you may have to use a buffer or another pedal that has a buffer to retain the nice treble frequencies that your guitar produces. Some prefer not to use a buffer and to just adjust their amps EQ to get the tone they want. This is a good technique if your guitar and/or amp are overly bright. For example, see Albert Collins' 100ft cable connected to his tele and Fender amp.

Quality:
All Fulltone pedals that I have encountered have been incredibly well constructed. From the feel of the mechanical pedal integrity, the footswitch, to the quality of the soldering and wiring, the OCD is all about rugged durability. No issues here whatsoever.

Value:
I think that Fulltone could charge a little less for their pedals and increase market share, but their prices are not extravagant and you get good quality in sound and construction in return.

Desirability:
Eh? Sex appeal? Well, let's just say that the OCD is not ugly. But, sex appeal? Come on guys its a musical instrument...a tool.

Sound:
The Fulltone OCD is "The" pedal that defines dynamic response (yes B^rb^r pedals are great too). You can set the gain relatively high and use your guitar volume to clean up the signal. The OCD responds just like an over-driven tube amp. The tone control is pleasing and the pedal has plenty of low end (no mid-hump here). The OCD can become fizzy if you run the tone control high and forget to set your amp's eq to match. So, we know that the OCD can do the M^^rsh^^l sound incredibly well and so it is perfect for rock rhythm and leads. If you want a singing tone for your lead sound, the OCD will be hard pressed to deliver unless you are running it into a "cooking" tube amp. However, all you have to do is stack your favorite compressor in front of the OCD and you can get the great OCD tone with tons of sustain for singing leads. With an OCD and a good compressor you can have your M^rsh^^l clean (if you want Fender clean, just run the OCD into a Fender tube amp and bypass the OCD for clean ;) ) with your guitar volume lowered, crunch rhythm sound with your guitar volume in the middle and classic/hard rock riffing with your guitar volume maxed. Finally, turn on the compressor and you get a singing lead tone a la Allman Bros. and such.

Ease of Use:
The OCD is very easy to be dialed in. You set the tone to go well with your amps eq setting (setting your amp for the best tone before using pedals is always best). Select you desired amount of gain at full guitar volume. Set the level for a volume boost or equal volume with the bypassed sound. Its as easy as that.

Support:
I didn't select a number here because I have never needed support for a Fulltone pedal. Hmmm, that speaks for itself, doesn't it.

Overall:
An OCD will be on my pedalboard for as long as I have a pedalboard. If I don't have a pedalboard, then the OCD will be stored until I get one. These pedals are in high demand for a reason. This pedal will be the "Tube Screamer" of the next generation. People of various genres and styles will have it on their boards. Btw, I prefer version 3 the best, but version 4 is great too. My prediction is that version 5 will look more like version 3.
