Since the 1960's, electric guitar players have been searching for an effective way to control sustain and feedback. The Fernandes Sustainer puts that power at your fingertips. Their patented technology allows players to produce Hendrix-like textures and tonal colorings at any volume level. The Sustainer works with single notes or chords and can be adjusted to give swells or a gradual decay to the sustain.

What is the Fernandes Sustainer

The Fernandes Sustainer is a specially designed electronic system for electric guitar that creates controllable sustain of any single or group of notes in the instrument's sound range. This means that the string(s) will ring at constant intensity indefinitely until stopped, regardless of output and location, even if your guitar is not connected to an amplifier!

What can the Fernandes Sustainer do for you?

Bring your creativity to higher levels by using the Sustainer with any combination of gear in your arsenal of effects, amp modelers and home recording equipment. Discover sounds exploring the world of controlled sustain and feedback. How do you get natural sustain read more using digital effects? The Fernandes Sustainer is the way!

How does it work?

The patented Fernandes Sustainer system generates a magnetic field causing the strings of the guitar to vibrate. Powered by a 9-Volt battery, the interaction of the bridge humbucking pickup, the Sustainer Circuit Board and the neck Sustainer Driver pickup, projects magnetic pulses that continuously vibrate the strings of the guitar, the same way an amplifier at extreme volume would do, yet totally controlled! The result is infinite sustain and/or feedback using sparkly clean or loud distorted settings without the need for excessive volume or extra outboard gear!

Modes

1. Natural Mode: The note(s) will continue to ring its natural fundamental tone as long as the string(s) are free to vibrate and the Sustainer System is on.

2. Harmonic Mode: Within seconds, the pitch of the ringing note(s) will rise to the 5th natural harmonic.

3. Mix Mode: Available on select models including the FSK-401 Sustainer Kit, the Mix mode blends the Natural and Harmonic Mode to harmonize indefinitely every ringing note creating a harmonized feedback effect.

"I'd rather have a Sustainiac Pro, but in a pinch, I'll tolerate this because I already spent the bucks and can't get a refund no"

Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Already bought a Sustainiac as a better choice - even for the increased price. I'd describe it as a "budget Sustainiac" for a non-budget price. Not all of us are rich pros with the bucks to buy anything, and this thing costs more than a hand-made-in-the-US Fralin pickup, but isn't - it's most likely made in China for a pittance.

Sound
Infinite sustain? You bet - while it eats the battery. But it does sound good.

Features
Just sustains - the neck pickup is gone, and no harmonics.

Ease of Use
Just flip the switch and play your unending notes. If you've performed on stage, it's like having your amp cranked to good sustain levels, but without the usual necessary blistering volume.

Quality
Too bulky, switches are hard mounted, so if you're cramped for space, you have to de-solder them and add leads, which is a royal pain. Board has some strange circuit material - not copper like regular boards, so if you damage it, good luck fixing it. I'd say this was made for Fernandes to put in its guitars, and not for people as an aftermarket product that is now selling as. The Sustainiac board is MUCH smaller and easier to mount in many cases, unless you want to rout a special compartment for this thing.

Value
Due to the bulkiness, fit and finish of the parts (board looks like most of it came out of a transistor radio when for the money read more it should be ALL SMDs and much smaller - yes, I know my electronics), I can't give it a high rating. 5 is neutral for me, but I'd rather have a Susutainiac, quite frankly.

Manufacturer Support
Don't know - never contacted them, but I'd be surprised if they'd honor the mods I had to make in order to make it fit into the control cavity of the guitar it's now in because I was NOT going to rout a cavity and ad another plate to the back of this beautiful guitar - I didn't use their battery box either for the same reason.

The Wow Factor
I use it a lot - it fits my playing style very well, but it devours batteries like no one's business.

Musical Background:
Active musician for over 30 years.
