Fender Texas Special Stratocaster Single-Coil Pickup Set

With Alnico 5 magnets and a reverse-wound middle pickup for noise cancellation, Fender's Texas Special set delivers serious midrange bark and high-end bite.

Take a vintage Strat pickup and overwind it for more mid-range, punch and output and you get a pickup with an Attitude! Staggered Alnico 5 magnets, enamel-coated magnet wire and cloth output wires make these pickups the choice of many signature artists. Featuring pickups calibrated for each position and a reverse-coil, reverse-wound middle pickup for noise cancellation (positions 2 and 4). If you want plenty of mid-range bark and crisp high-end bite, Texas Special Strat pickups are for you! OEM on the Steve Ray Vaughan and Bonnie Raitt Stratocasters.

"Clean sound, plenty of bite and warmth."

These pups do what I need them to, and give me a good solid Fender sound. "Vintage" enough to claim the Fender name and just hot enough to make the tone distinct.
Sound
Good midrange and plenty of twang available. Slightly warmer than stock, which is good with Position 2 Strat use (Bridge/Middle). Pickups record well. Using them live with both production and custom pedals has been great, as well as running them straight through a Hot Rod Deluxe.
Features
Mounting screws are a bit difficult to tap initially until you get the hang of what is expected. Instead of using the screws themselves, I used a compatible tap and die set to make the cuts. This was easier to control and resulted in a much cleaner installation.
Ease of Use
Sounds great straight out of the box. Highs cut, mids are "there" and the bass is very present without being overwhelming. These were installed in a custom Strat copy and have performed very well.
Value
I got my set about 3 years ago before the price rose. I'm happy with the cost.
Manufacturer Support
Called Fender Custom Shop with the question about tapping the screws and got a quick answer from the first person (real live -person-) I talked to, who gave me the suggestion of using the tap and die set. He said the trouble with most installations was that people tend to try to simply muscle the screws through the untapped holes, which is perfectly fine, but can be error-prone.
