Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Guitar Combo Amplifier

The Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb packs 22 watts into two channels: "Vintage" for the rich sound of the original, and "Custom" for modern high-gain tones.

As one of Fender's recently re-issued Custom Series "silverface" amplifiers, the '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb guitar combo amp celebrates the landmark year when Fender brought the electric guitar amplifier into new sonic territory. Like the legendary original, this '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb delivers killer tube-driven tone and a truly classic look.

22 Watts Through a 12" Celestion Speaker

The '68 Custom Deluxe series has a single 12-inch Celestion that moves a little more air than the 10-inch speaker on the re-issued '68 Princeton Reverb. This makes the Deluxe as great for powerful solos as it is for chordal and rhythm parts. When you run it clean, it has a shimmer and clarity that is rich in color and overtones. When you push the gain, you'll immediately open up a world of crunch tone that sounds good no matter where you've got it set.

Four Discrete Inputs On Two Channels

The '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb is a true 2-channel amplifier, with "Custom" and "Vintage." Each section has two 1/4-inch inputs that can be used individually or in tandem, giving you a total of FOUR inputs on a single amplifier.

The "Custom" section keeps things no frills with Volume, Treble, and Bass knobs to shape your tone. Over in the "Vintage" section, things get interesting with Volume, Treble, Bass, and Reverb knobs. This amp also comes with a true tube-driven Tremolo section with Speed and Intensity controls.

All-Tube Complement

The '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb gets its unmistakable sound from 4 read more x 12AX7 and 2 X 12AT7 preamp tubes. 2 x 6V6 power tubes amplify this vintage sound to give you a notably powerful 22 watts of power. A single 12-inch Celestion G12V-70 moves plenty of air and completes the overall tonal equation of this amp. With its smaller size and manageable output, the '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb allows you to push the preamp as far as you like without becoming excessively loud.

Eternally Cool "Silverface" Design

1968 was also a year that Fender nailed a truly timeless aesthetic, creating a look that has stood the test of time. The black textured vinyl covering is contrasted with a silver-turquoise grille cloth that immediately achieves a classic look. Meanwhile, the famous aluminum drip edge grille cloth trim that looks as distinguished onstage as always. The blue jewel pilot light glows as beautifully as ever, while the skirted control knobs pop with their elegant nickel-plated caps.

Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb

1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps, with tone that was still pure Fender but a look that was brand new. With a silver-and-turquoise front panel and classy aluminum "drip edge" grille cloth trim, the Fender Deluxe Reverb received a fresh face as it remained the ideal recording and performing amp. Small, light and moderately powered, it produced big tube tone, with worldclass Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Deluxe Reverb has been the go-to amp for classic Fender sound.

The '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender's late-'60s "silverface" amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the "custom" channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. The '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb's single 12" Celestion G12V-70 speaker also delivers a more distinctively rock 'n' roll flavor.

I've owned many kinds of guitar amps over the years; from high end boutique (Dr. Z, Fargen, Allessandro) to some run-of-the-mill solid state. I keep coming back to Fender. I've played long enough to have developed my own style and Fender fits the bill, right on the money. I found myself drawn to the "Fender" sound even in the higher end amps I've purchased...it just works for me. Fender did a righteous thing with this amp; tremelo for BOTH channels; "Bassman" like tone stack in the first channel; I believe they did away with the "bright" cap that many folks clipped on the original and reissue Deluxe Reverb amps. I haven't played through this amp long enough to fully assess the Celestion speaker, but so far I have no complaints. I fully expect it will be just fine. My last Deluxe Reverb RI was done point-to-point aftermarket by George Allessandro (a great guy and a superior amp-builder / designer, IMO). I loved that amp but lost it at a very trying time in my life. Now, yeah I know some folks are really "down" on PCB circuitry, but honestly, I gigged the aforementioned Deluxe Reverb RI (before the P-T-P conversion) and a Hot Rod Deville 4x10 for over 5 years, dragging them all over the place and never had one problem with them. Zero. 4 to 6 gigs a month, practice every week. Anyway, I LOVE this amp's tone and versatility. PLENTY loud for any gigging I do...and for large open air gigs I have a '70 Super Reverb I can use...or just mike the '68 Custom. For the money, you cannot beat read more this amp, IMO. Read some reviews complaining about features (!)- it's made to be "old school". You want a bunch of the latest "Zoinks" computer controlled features- buy a Boogie or a Peavey for cryin out loud! This amp is NOT a reissue- yet it follows the original late 60s Fender Deluxes relative to tone and break-up. I personally find both channels starting to break up around "5" and to really get "snarly" around "8" either channel. I play a 2003 American Series with stock single coils. My long effects chain is as follows: guitar>Boss BD Keely Modded> Vox Wah modded to true bypass>amp. Will this work for all guitar music types? No! Is it a "do-all" amp? No! Ain't designed to be! But if you want some great tone, syrup-y tremolo, the good-old-old-school crunch, in an affordable, versatile (within aforesaid limits) package-just get one! I may see if George Allessandro with convert this P-T-P some day...or I might not. Either way- Congrats Fender! You've got a winner with this amp...and a "Friend in Pa.!" And ZZounds- you've got a friend too. My first purchase from you folks was this amp- it will not be my last. No B.S. service- FAST delivery, friendly staff. Large selection and great prices. Keep up the great work guys!
