But now, they've added active electronics to optimize the sound of the two new Vintage Noiseless pickups onboard!

Classic Jazz Bass Design

The body is carved alder, true to Jazz Bass spec. The maple neck is carved in a modern C-shape with a 34-inch scale length. A select rosewood fingerboard with a 9.5-inch radius plays fast and smooth. 20 medium jumbo frets are all freely accessible. The Deluxe Active Jazz Bass employs a standard vintage bridge, with high-quality chrome hardware is all high-quality chrome throughout for holding excellent intonation.

Two Dual-Coil Noiseless J Bass Pickups

Fender's dual-coil ceramic noiseless pickups are designed to deliver a vintage Jazz Bass tone, minus the hum and noise. These pickups employ hand-beveled polepieces with specially metered radii. Their sound is full of snap and crisp presence, with a midrange that's better balanced with the low-end than with most other single-coil bass pickups. The Alnico 2 magnets reflect the attack and fundamental clearly, without becoming overdriven under aggressive playing.

Active Electronics Yield Superior Tone

The Deluxe Active J Bass' pickups benefit even more from the onboard active electronics. Shape your sound with a 3-band active EQ with Treble, Mid, and Bass Boost/Cut. read more The overall frequency contour is elegant and musical no matter how you have these knobs balanced, and give you a wide tonal palette to play with -- making the Active Jazz Bass an excellent choice for actively gigging bassists.

I thought I'd be settling when I retired my 1962 Jazz Bass and bought this bass as a replacement. WRONG! I got the bass on Wednesday...spent the evening setting it up to my style of playing, and checked it out thoroughly. Thursday night it did its' first gig. Absolutely fantastic! The tonal capabilities of the active controls gives you everything you need right at your fingertips. The craftsmanship was top shelf. On the whole, I've found nothing but pros and zero cons. Fine instrument at a very reasonable price! I've been playing for 50 years, so trust me when I say Fenders' Deluxe Active Bass is a winner!
