Fender Passport Wireless Handheld System Reviews

"Do yourself a favor and use a non-Fender wireless mic with your Passport system."
Feature:
It's great to have a wireless mic integrated into your Passport PA system. Just turn it on and you have a built-in wireless mic. Too bad the sound quality sucks.

Quality:
The range of the mic was OK but there is low volume from the mic itself. It's as if there is no gain to the mic. You have to practically eat the mic to get any volume out of it. The wired mics on the same system don't have this problem.

Value:
$350 is a lot to pay for a flawed device.

Desirability:
Would be nice if it worked.

Sound:
No gain. Your lips have to be touching the mic to get any volume out of it.

Ease of Use:
Very easy to set up. Just remove the protective cover over the connection in the storage compartment and plug in the receiver. It screws in and becomes part of the main unit. Then match the receiver to the mic by pushing a button and pointing the mic end at the receiver.

Support:
Took it to a Fender service center where they first thought I just didn't know how to match the mic to the receiver. I had to go back and show them what the problem was. They agreed that the volume issue was a problem and ordered a new mic but the new one behaved the same. So they ordered a new receiver . . . same result. I called Fender's customer relations dept. and explained the issue. They authorized replacing the main Passport system in a vain attempt to solve the problem. After replacing every component it still had the same low volume issue. This indicates that all of these wireless mics are flawed unless I just happened to get two defective units -- not likely.

Overall:
A great idea but the performance sucks.

"A Scam. A great idea on paper, sucks in use."
Feature:
I would give this a 10 for its sharp looks, design, and ease of use. But since it sucks and constantly cuts out, what's the use?

Quality:
Looks beefy. Looks can be deceiving.

Value:
A $200 mic that doesn't work as advertised is a complete rip-off.

Desirability:
Should be a 10. As I said, a mic that has the receiver built into your Passport PA is a great idea in theory, but worthless in use.

Sound:
I so wanted this to not be true. It's such a cool idea, looks sharp, and so easy to use with the portable Passport systems. Just flick the mic on and your whole wireless system is live, patched in, and ready to go. Or I should say, ready to cut out on you. Because it constantly does. Not sometimes, not ones in a while, but constantly, as in "Hey, I bought this at Radio Shack for $39.99!" not $199 made by Fender.

Support:
Horrible. "Sorry, mics aren't returnable. Even if they suck."

Overall:
Stay away from this. Don't ignore the reviews like I did, crossing your fingers in hopes that they just got the lemon.
