This semi-hollowbody axe features a warm and resonant ash body, a bright-sounding maple set neck in a cozy modern C shape, 22 medium jumbo frets with comfortable action, an inviting rosewood fingerboard, a powerful Seymour Duncan SP90-1NRWRP Vintage P-90 at the neck, a hot-sounding SP90-3B Custom P-90 at the bridge, independent volume and tone controls for each pickup, and eye-catching chrome hardware that keeps each string's intonation grounded and consistent.

Semi-Hollow Ash Body Yields 100% Rock Tone

Fender guitars were often built with ash wood when rock was really starting to take off in the '50s and '60s. This tonewood pays proper patronage to the lows, mids, and highs of each note, so your output will be consistently well-balanced no matter how aggressively you like to play. This ash-bodied semi-hollow Tele makes a great guitar if you're looking for a straightforward and no-nonsense rock sound with plenty of presence and punch.

Hot-Sounding Seymour Duncan P-90 Pickups

P-90 pups are known and loved for their hot and forceful output, and this guitar's pickup pairing is no exception. The Seymour Duncan soapbar setup boasts that unmistakable look that anticipates a vintage-tinged tone which, when pushed, gets as hot as they come. Be sure to grab your independent tone and volume controls to shape how your signal hits your amp. The neck read more pickup has a little more body, while the bridge pickup brings in a little bit more bite -- perfect for some ear-piercing amplification.

Set Maple Neck in Modern C Shape

The modern C shape on your Adkins JA-90 Telecaster's maple neck is a comfortable fit for your hand to enjoy. All 22 medium jumbo frets harness a tight and snug action, which makes speedy runs and bendy riffs an absolute pleasure to play. Maple brings an appealing rounded brightness to your tone, with just enough snap and bite to cut through the mix when you kick up the attack of your playing style. And unlike your everyday bolt-on Fender Telecaster, the Jim Adkins signature model rocks a set neck! That translates to more resonance between the neck and body, which means more warmth and body than you'd expect from this Tele's bolt-on brethren.

Visually Striking Wood Finish

This arresting axe looks just as great as it sounds. Ash has an intriguing and distinguished grain pattern that can be hard to pull your eyes away from. The three-ply black pickguard offers a nice contrast in color, and the chrome hardware on this axe delivers visual flair along with security, so you can focus more on rocking out without losing intonation between every song.

Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Tele Thinline

When Jimmy Eat World guitarist and frontman Jim Adkins collaborated with Fender in designing his perfect guitar, the result was his signature Fender JA-90 Telecaster Thinline. Fender craftsmen sat down with Adkins and went over his old Fender TC-90 spec by spec, making several important changes that subsequently produced this unique model. Features include a 24.75" scale length, a maple neck set into a semi-hollow ash body, Seymour Duncan soap-bar pickups, independent volume and tone controls, Adjusto-Matic bridge and anchored tailpiece. Sweetness!

This is a Telecaster Thinline with Duncan P-90's, a tune-o-matic bridge/stop tailpiece, set neck, 24.75" scale, etc. - sort of a schizophrenic combination, but it works! I wanted a lightweight not-too-expensive solid-body to supplement my archtop and my semi-hollow, and I wanted P90's. In doing some Internet research, I not only came across this model but also saw that zZounds had a single 'blemished' model selling for 30% less that the normal price. I'd never heard of Jim Adkins and I was skeptical about a guitar crafted in Indonesia, but I pulled the trigger anyway half expecting to be disappointed and end up having to send it back. Well, I'm keeping it! The blemish was ... well I couldn't find one! (I think it was actually a customer return.) There's nothing wrong with it at all - plays good and sounds great. I went right from the stock 9's to 10's, with the only adjustments needed being resetting the intonation for the slightly heavier strings and adjusting the pickups to get three distinct balanced tonalities. The bridge, tailpiece, and tuners are cheap knockoffs of something, but they're effective enough. The pots, switch, and jack are possibly of marginal quality, but they also work fine, and considering the cost of the guitar I don't mind replacing them with CTS and Switchcraft parts down the road. The width at the nut is a tad narrow compared to what I generally prefer, but since the string spacing at the bridge is standard Gibson, it doesn't feel cramped at all. So read more yeah, she's a keeper! Jim Adkins ... Indonesia ... whatever! This is a good guitar!
