EVH Eddie Van Halen D-Tuna Drop D Tuning System

Drop from E to D with ease with EVH's Drop D tuning system. The D-Tuna kit includes a D-Tuna, Allen wrench, spring, and 2 replacement string locking screws.

The EVH D-Tuna is a unique patented device that enables players to drop the E to D and back, in an instant. In early 1990s, the D-Tuna became standard equipment on Eddie Van Halen's personal guitars as well as signature series locking tremolo-equipped guitars. Since then, thousands of D-Tunas have been sold all over the world. D-Tuna is proud to be endorsed by many professional players such as Warren DeMartini (RATT), Michael Wilton (Queensryche), and Dave "The Snake" Sabo (Skid Row), just to name a few. Bottom line -- it's simple to use and it works.

"It couldn't be easier to install. You remove the string locking screw from the low E-saddle on the bridge and replace it with one of the two D-Tuna locking screws, the spring assembly and the D-Tuna. And that's just about all there is to it." - Edward Van Halen

The D-Tuna is made from the highest quality hardened steel. The patented design allows for precise fine-tuning adjustment, is simple to set up, easy to use, and really works!

Each D-Tuna Kit Contains:
- D-Tuna
- Allen wrench
- Spring
- 2 long replacement string locking screws

NOTE: Won't work with low-profile Floyd Rose tremolos

Can the D-Tuna be used on any Floyd Rose Tremolo?
It can be used on any Floyd Rose or Licensed Floyd Rose Tremolo with the long locking screw, where the fine tuner on the bridge presses directly on the locking screw.

Can the D-Tuna be used if the guitar is tuned down a 1/2 step?
Yes - set it for D Flat in the "out" position and E Flat in the read more "in" position.

What gauge strings are best?
Any! The D-Tuna works with all standard electric sets.

Can I use the D-Tuna on any other strings?
It will change the pitch of any string, but it is designed for the low "E" string only.

Can I use it on a low profile tremolo?
Yes, but it depends on how deep the bridge is set. A very deep cavity may require some minor routing, although most will not. Don't forget to stabilize the bridge first!

Do I have to remove the D-Tuna during string changes?
No, it will stay on the locking screw at all times.

Why do the other strings go out of tune when I drop to D?
The bridge must be stabilized first. This is done by blocking the bridge so it can not pull up. If your bridge is stabilized and the other strings are still going out of tune, you may need to increase the overall "spring tension" by moving the spring claw further from the block.

Why can't I get a full step drop?
There are a few things to check. First, tune the open low string to "D" with the D-Tuna in the "out" position and lock the nut. Engage the D-Tuna to the "in" position then fine tune the "E" (using the D-Tuna fine tuner). Did you use the right length locking screw? If the head sticks out of the D-Tuna completely, it is too long -- use the shorter screw.

Overall I love this thing. Gone are the days of wondering if I have enough slack in the fine tuner. No more looking for that allen wrench. No more having to pause / mute / tune / un-mute. I use it on a custom strat with a surface mounted Gotoh floyd, so I did not have to block or mod the trem at all, but I'm considering doing just that on my other guitars with floating floyds, as 'pulling up' can be done by pressing on the string screws - not a big concern for me anyhow because as it turns out, I'm not Steve Vai. But seriously, if you're doing much tuning or having to switch guitars mid-set, you need this thing. I would replace it if needed, but I doubt it ever will. Simple ideas are always the best.

Sound
No sound, but there are no problems with sustain, string height or anything else.

Features
Only one feature, and it does it well.

Ease of Use
Gave a 7 here just because it is not that easy to grip when pulling out to dropped D. Pops back it easily Maybe I should smear some 'gator grip' goo on it or something?

Quality
Only complaint is how easily the fine tuning set screw moves. This needs to be a nylon lock screw or something a bit harder to turn, as mine needs to be adjusted every week or two.

Value
Worth the money. If you do a lot of detuning, buy it. I don't think there are any other items that do exactly what this read more thing does. If you have a non-floating floyd it's a must-have bargain.

Manufacturer Support
Haven't dealt with 'em. If it breaks I'll just give Eddie a call, right?

The Wow Factor
It completes me. It had me at "Add To Cart". Gives your guitar a groovy 'modded' look.
