I'll always keep this pickup in that swamp ash guitar. It's a hard rock pickup; no matter what you do it ain't going to do country or jazz, but I don't expect it to. It's just a great sounding pickup whose tone is part of rock n roll history.

Sound
This pickup goes a long way to getting the sound of the first Van Halen album in '78. It's a hot rock n roll pickup... I also own Eddie's signature guitars with EBMM and Peavey and those pickups are more "creamy" and capable of a wide variety of tones while this is definitely that original rock n roll VH Eruption and You Really Got Me tone. The pickup was easy to install and wire up.

Quality
This pickup seems to be heavily potted... no microphonic feedback. The braided wire is super heavy duty. I was impressed with the box the pickup came in. It was just a really cool, kind of large box with Ed's stripes on it. It made it feel like you were getting something really high quality and special that Ed was proud of, not just some chincy thing they churned out to make money.

Value
This pickup is a little on the pricey side, but I was willing to pay the premium price to get Ed's original pickup. A pickup is really only a bunch of wire wrapped around a magnet... not much in the cost of materials department, but what you are really paying for with this pickup is Ed's signature tone, and on that it delivers.

I guess it's cool that this pickup is Ed's recreation of that original legendary Frankenstrat pickup. I built a swamp ash guitar with the hockey stick neck out of parts from Warmoth and stuck this pickup in it. People are always admiring the guitar and then I get to tell them the pickup is Eddie's authorized replica and they really start to drool.
