Epiphone Les Paul Ultra Electric Guitar

No longer available at zZounds
Step up your sound with the Les Paul Ultra. The Ultra features a chambered body, contoured back, and a slim, fast neck for responsive, full tone.

The Les Paul Ultra looks at first glance just like a Les Paul Standard, the world-famous icon for rock and roll music, but its mahogany body has strategically placed hollow cavities to make it not only lighter (about 5.5 lbs) but also more 'acoustic' sounding. Additionally, a belly-contour on the back of the guitar allows it to comfortably hug the player's body. With a slightly narrower nut (42mm as opposed to 43mm) on a very fast, satin-finish neck, the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra is truly an Ultra-friendly guitar. It comes in a classic, faded cherry finish with gold-plated hardware.

i expect to have this guitar forever. it serves its purpose quite nicely. i can take it anywhere, want to lift it up and play it all the time, and if i ever gig, i will look professional. i see no reason to purchase a more expensive chambered guitar or even solid body for that matter. the only way i would pass this up might be for a chambered strat and only then because of the tremolo. even then i would still want to keep this one. you simply can not get a guitar that does all the things the ultra does for the price.

Sound
great all around sound. there is little residual sound (noise from untouched vibrating strings) compared to other chambered or hollow bodies. it sounds great with healthy distortion and good for the clean channel. it doesn't sound knock your socks off amazing clean, but it isn't a guitar for that. it can do almost any sound you want it to.

Features
grover tuners hold/feel nice. otherwise straight forward. plus the gold hardware everywhere looks sweet w/ the color scheme.

Ease of Use
fastest neck you can buy for this money. HUGE RECOMMENDATION: play this piece with 09 strings. i think you'll thank me. do that and your fingers will fly!!! it's light - makes you want to get up and jam all the time.

Quality
though the finish is excellent, it absolutely shines, some aspects of it seem like they're kind of thrown together. you get up real close read more and it seems kind of cheap. i think one of my inlays might be ever so slightly crooked. i'd say it's like a van gogh, far away looks absolutely beautiful get up close you see all the brushstrokes.

Value
though you can get slightly cheaper guitars out there that sound "good" or at least adequate, at the typical price (almost everyone is at 499) there is ABSOLUTELY NO competition for this axe. you can get thinline or semi hollow products out there but unfortunatley they mostly sound like garbage. otherwise you're in the 7-800 price range for anything that compares.

The Wow Factor
this turns eyes. even mine every day and it's next to my bed. if it keeps on looking so good it might end up in it.
