The Prophecy Les Paul Custom Plus GX is built with an all-mahogany body, and set with a distinctive quilted maple veneer top. The neck is mahogany too, with a SpeedTaper D-profile taking its cue from the classic Les Paul designs of the late 1960s. The neck radius measures a comfortable 14 inches, and is 1.68 inches across at the graphite nut. The classic mother-of-pearl and abalone block and triangle design inlays gleam beautifully in the light. The 490R features a genuine Alnico II bar magnet and the 498T carries an Alnico-V bar magnet. These Alnicos yield a significantly hotter sound than the classic PAF design. In short, they were designed to deliver a more versatile and powerful sound for contemporary read more players. Both pickups benefit hugely from a four-conductor wiring scheme, and each is wired here to its own Push/Pull knobs for splitting the coils if so desired. This essentially doubles the tonal capabilities of a normal Les Paul, allowing the humbuckers to function more like single-coil pickups.

Hardware Built to Last

The hardware on the Prophecy GX definitely sets it in a class of its own. The controls are a unique gold metal barrel design with mother-of-pearl inlaid tops -- a very attractive detail. The LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece are matched with the same gold tone, as are the straplocks and the exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. This guitar was a huge surprise when I opened the box. I have had it for 4 months now and it is still a surprise everytime i take it out of the case. Visually it is beautiful. But the true test came when I plugged it in and tuned it. Very nice sound, the Gibson Pickups give a wide range of tone and with the Coil Tapping capability the range is limitless. The guitar stays in tune with the Grover tuners. The neck is attractive with the mother of pearl and abalonie inlays, and stainless steel frets. It is a great affordable guitar built with excellent quality, well worth the investment.

Sound
The sound quality is excellent whether you are playing clean twangy country or crunching out some hardcore metal, this guitar will handle it all.

Features
The Grover tuners are awesome, they hold a tune very good, way better than the cheaper guitars I was used to. The Gibson Pickups put out a very wide range of sounds, the Coil Tapping capability is an excellent feature.

Ease of Use
Very easy to play, sits well if you are sitting on a stool and hangs good on a strap for stand up play. It is a little heavy if you are used to a lighter cheaper guitar, but after a couple weeks it is no longer an issue.

Quality
The guitar is very well made, one of the nicer Epiphone I have ever seen. All good quality hardware and the finish is superb.

Value
This read more guitar is worth every penny of its selling price, which is very reasonable and affordable.

Manufacturer Support
Reason for low rating on this topic, I Have not had any reason to contact Epiphone about this instrument.

The Wow Factor
The quality for the price. I have always played cheap couple hundred dollar guitars. I decided I wanted an upscale Epiphone to replace my Cheap beginner Epiphone, after doing a lot of homework and review reading, this is the one I chose. It is a very attractive price, and when side by side with the Cheap one, they look like two different guitars except for the Les Paul body style, this one is way better built, with higher quality, a set neck, unlike the bolt on of the other, better hardware and it feels like you have something in your hands. Plus Zzounds made it possible for me to jam with the play as you pay option.
