The Hummingbird acoustic-electric guitar has long stood out in the Gibson and Epiphone lineups as a favorite of strummers and singer/songwriters. With the Hummingbird Pro, Epiphone has updated this iconic model with a slimmer neck and the Shadow ePerformer preamp system -- covering any need a modern songsmith might have.
Mahogany Body, Topped Off With Spruce
The tonal characteristics of the Hummingbird Pro start at the top -- its Sitka spruce top, that is. Spruce is known for its clear response even through hard strumming or picking -- good for players who really "dig into" their songs. On the Hummingbird Pro, the top is complemented by mahogany back and sides, which help add definition to the low end. The guitar's neck is also mahogany, carved in a SlimTaper "D" profile for a more modern feel. The rosewood fretboard is adorned with the iconic pearloid parallelogram inlays, and the neck is joined to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint, making for a strong, resonant bond.
Shadow ePerformer Preamp Brings Your Tone to Life
A collaboration between Epiphone and Shadow spawned the Shadow ePerformer Preamp found on the Hummingbird Pro. The ePerformer runs on two 2302 batteries, giving you tone-shaping options from treble, bass, and volume knobs, to a dynamics control for fine-tuning frequencies, all found on the guitar's left shoulder. The system also offers player-friendly features like a phase switch, low battery indicator, and mute button for pop-free plugging.
Distinctive Features are More Than Decor
Most people know the Hummingbird for its blush-red finish and signature pickguard graphic. Epiphone's Hummingbird Pro model sweetens the deal with several high-end features. The top is wrapped in five-ply white binding, with one-ply binding around the back and fretboard. The reverse belly rosewood bridge helps stabilize intonation and action with a compensated saddle. Finally, the nickel Grover tuners help keep you in tune through hours upon hours of strumming.

The Epiphone Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.
First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.
On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow(TM) ePerformer(TM) preamp and Shadow NanoFlex(TM) pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.
Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper(TM) D profile and features a 25.5" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and five-ply white and black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "Epiphone" logo in white.
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex(TM) pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.
Shadow Pickup System
Epiphone and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many Epiphone guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow(TM) ePerformer(TM) Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the Epiphone factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.
Though there are many guitars that claim to be "historic" or "vintage" styled, only one comes with a Limited Lifetime Guarantee and Gibson 24/7/365 customer service and the experience of a century of guitar making. Go with the best.
