The Epiphone Dot Archtop is a classic amongst rock and jazz guitarists. With construction modeled after the legendary ES-335, the Dot Archtop is a great, affordable way to get the same familiar semi-hollow tone. The Dot shares much in common with the ES-335 -- from the alnico-magnet humbucker pickups to the set mahogany neck to details like the "Gibson" engraved trussrod cover and stopbar tailpiece. Comfortably priced within range of working musicians, the Epiphone Dot Archtop makes a great entry-level jazz guitar for any player.

Warm, Full-bodied Sound

The Dot Archtop features a classic semi-hollow design and a pair of humbuckers to provide warm, full-bodied sound. The dual alnico pickups are modeled after the classic era humbuckers that defined the jazzy tones of semi-hollowbodies from the '60s. For versatility, the Dot also has a 3-position pickup selector to switch between pickup combinations. While the hollow wings of the Dot Archtop provide excellent body and sustain, the middle is a solid piece of wood which works to reduce feedback. Its body binding and laminated maple body looks great in the natural finish, while the red and ebony options present their own stylish flair. The neck is slightly rounder than the ultra-thin style of some ES-335s, but remains extremely playable for quick jazz licks.

I build solid-body "partscasters", and not seeing my skills elevating to Archtops, I wanted the DOT, straight-up. $2500 335, 345s, etc out of range of present budget. Knew the EpiDot had a l-o-n-g reputation, and now that I own one, I know why. Yes, 335 necks are thinner, wider, and they play themselves. My EpiDot has a typical tight "C" profile, but wider than I thought it might be. And the first surprise was the MASS of the Dot; it has heft to it. Almost like picking up a mug you thought was plastic and it was really glass. I liked the blocking, it said it had in the blurb, so no filling the space with padding as some early 335 owners did, to get CRANK. In order to keep the Legend intact, Epiphone must lose money on these guitars. The build quality is that of a guitar that costs a LOT more (335, Starfire). I appreciate the choice of wood and grain for the fingerboard, stunning. The faux gold knobs were immediately exchanged for Black speed knobs, adding bite to the looks, but that's ALL this remodder is going to do with a LEGEND. The Epiphone Dot, what a great investment!!!! at a great price!!!!!!
