In eMedia's My Guitar, an animated character named Gary the Guitar leads kids through lessons by Kevin Garry, Ph.D. Gary explains how, the videos show how, and the screens have the songs. Learn how to tune your guitar, strum chords, play tunes, and more. Learn many fun songs that you and your friends can sing along with.

My Guitar covers the basics, such as tuning your guitar and learning chords, and moves on to reading music, playing songs, and much more. An animated fretboard shows you where to put your fingers as the live recorded audio plays. With MIDI tracks, the speed of the music can be adjusted so you can learn at your own pace. Special features such as an automatic tuner, metronome, chord dictionary, and digital recorder are all included.

The Fun Way to Learn

Research has proven that children who play an instrument do better in school, make friends more easily, are more creative, learn self-discipline and gain self-confidence. Now it's easy for kids ages 6 and up to learn how to play acoustic guitar. An animated character named Gary the Guitar guides kids through lessons by professional instructor Kevin Garry, Ph.D. (University of Boulder-Colorado), who has over 25 years of teaching experience. Games make learning fun, and kids will learn lots of songs that they can share with their friends.

Animated Fretboard

The animated fretboard shows the correct fingerings as the music plays. Double-clicking on any chord or note will also show kids where to put read more their fingers. Choose from right-handed, left-handed, and mirror views.

Full-motion Videos

The lessons are easy to follow with the large-format videos, featuring split-screens and close-ups that guide kids through songs and playing techniques.

Interactive Games

Games help children learn chords and songs by reviewing what they learned in the lessons. By interacting with the playful characters and scenes, kids will have fun while learning music.

Automatic Tuner

Using either the computer's built-in microphone or an external one, your child can get tuned up quickly and easily with the built-in interactive tuner. They can just line up the arrow with the right string and be in tune.

Chord Dictionary

The chord dictionary is an extremely helpful tool, displaying over 250 chord charts. Simply click on a chord and your child will hear what it sounds like and see the right fingerings.

Metronome

Kids can set their own tempo and get audio and/or visual cues for staying on beat so they can play in time with the music.

Recorder

The digital recorder allows kids to play into the computer's built-in microphone (or an external one), record their performance, and save it to the computer. This handy tool lets them listen to what they played and share it with their family and friends.

If you wish to use eMedia software which requires 32-bit support, do not upgrade past OS X 10.14 (Mojave). eMedia is working on a new version that will support Catalina and future versions of macOS, but do not yet have a release date for it.

"Great for kids age 6-12"

I got this one as a Christmas gift for my nephew, age 7. His parents tell me that he's actually going through the program, chapter by chapter. When I visited them over the weekend, my newphew couldn't wait to play to me a song he learned with this. And, he's actually kinda decent! Of course, I have only second hand compliments from his parents, but anything that can get that kid to settle down and concentrate on something, I'm for.
