DiMarzio DP409 Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 Guitar Pickup

With the versatile sound of the Alnico 2 magnet, the blues never sounded so sweet. The round, yet crisp tone assures every aspect of your sound is captured.

If you've heard the cliche that Alnico 2 means warm, soft sound, prepare to be surprised. The DiMarzio DP409 Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 guitar pickup is not a polite pickup, and the closer it's adjusted to the strings, the more raw it gets. In particular, the Alnico 2 magnetic field opens up all of the attack and definition of the low strings. It's a hot pickup with a strong attack in the bridge position, and its Alnico 2 magnets allow it to work very well in the neck position as well, for players who want a very warm, round sound. If you want an in-your-face-and-proud-of-it sound, the Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 is the top pick.

Recommend For:

Bridge position; can also be used in neck and middle.

Tech Talk

The same technology that allowed them to create the pure vintage Strat(R) sound of the Area 58 can also be used to design a much heavier pickup. The Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2 has more mids and lows while still possessing outstanding pick attack. This also makes it an excellent pickup for the arpeggios and sweep picking classical metal players prefer, because it does not become muddy even with high gain.

I was looking for a versatile Strat bridge pickup that would cover a lot of ground and compliment the two DiMarzio Area 67's in my Strat when I converted it from HSS to SSS. I spoke with DiMarzio tech support who are always exceptional and they recommended the HB2. It soundss great with my 250k pots and maple neck/fretboard. The HB2 has the bite and cut you expect from a Strat bridge pickup, while rolling off the tone fattens it up nicely (configured so 2nd tone controls bridge and middle). Boy does it quack with the Area 67 in the middle in position 2. The icing on the cake is that it's completely noiseless and the difference between a true single coil is negligible. It sings, screams & growls while remaining very touch sensitive. String pull isn't a problem with the A2 magnet. I highly recommend it!
