Dual Hard Drives
Cookie-cutter computers will do for most folks' needs. For the special requirements of music and multimedia professionals, however, your basic PC just won't do. A dual hard drive configuration, standard on most Digital Audio Wave workstations, is often crucial to achieving the performance you need.
Reduced Data Corruption
Computers do make mistakes now and then. The ERROR RATE of a standard 7200 rpm drive is very common on PC systems when not properly setup for audio applications.
Better, Faster Performance
If you partition a single disk in to two partitions then you're actually making the drive work harder and perform a lot more unnecessary head movements. The drive is then slower than this dual drive system and actually gives worse performance than leaving the disk as one large partition. Of course, leaving the disk as one partition means the drive becomes fragmented much faster.
Slows Disk Fragmentation
The more free space you have, the less the drive becomes fragmented.
Lower Latency
A dedicated second hard drive for audio also helps to lower latencies. The main one is the SEEK time of the drive.
Digital Audio Wave Has the Know-How
Digital Audio Wave's technicians have narrowed down a set of components that work reliably together for audio and multimedia applications. They do things like arrange drivers, partition properly and tweak BIOS (Basic Input Output System) settings for optimum performance and stability. In addition, Digital Audio Wave implements the operating system tweaks that are so widely recommended for getting the best out of most MIDI + Audio software. While all that may sound very technical, the point is a computer intended for audio and other multimedia tasks must be configured correctly, and they do it well.
