Analog Synthesis has made a massive come back, as I am sure you have noticed. The market is awash with really great models being made by hundreds of manufacturers ranging from old industry giants to Mad-Scientist types peddling both classic and envelope-pushing new ideas in modular form. But, nearly everything is monophonic and after a while, I was just obsessed with the idea of playing big lush chords without sampling a mono patch and making a fake polysynth with a sampler. Vintage polyphonic synths are too expensive and need constant attention to be useful. This Mopho X4 gave me the power to have genuine polyphony and the rich authenticity of each not triggering its own envelopes rather than pitching the envelope's reaction like a sampled sound will do.Dave Smith has been at it for a long time. He knows how to put together a powerful machine. I had the yellow Mopho desktop module for a while but since I already have a couple mono-synths, I just wanted more out of it.This Keyboard has really easy control (not quite knob per function, but knob-per-most-functions, and very little annoying menu-navigation) of all parameters, Stereo outs (with control over stereo field via LFO, Envelope, or other Mod source), as well as just sounding great. The Mopho X4 is about the most value for an analog polysynth as far as I can tell.If you are looking for polyphonic powerful subtractive synthesis, this unit deserves a serious consideration. The filter is nice, although it's only a Low-pass (Sorry. read more No multi-Mode), although it does allow you to switch between mega resonant 4-pole, and capable thin-resonant 2-pole..It would have been nice to have more modes...If you work the filter though, you can get it to do tricks you typically wouldn't expect from a lone Low-pass filter.Modulation options are fairly diverse, fun, and easy to route. All in all, this thing is a beast. Four note polyphony, TWO rather big sounding sub oscillators, and stacked unison detune mono trigger mode for bass patches that undulate and make your head swim. The sequencer is great too.You can't lose. You should probably buy one.
