D'Addario's XL strings are round wound with nickel-plated steel wrap wire. They produce a bright, true sound.

About D'Addario Strings
The devil is always in the details, and sweating the details has been a family tradition at D'Addario for nine generations. Just look at something as simple as our plain steel guitar strings. They pay more to have their ball ends precision turned from solid brass stock. The edges have radii that prevent the ball end from cutting into wooden bridges or guitar tops.

Each string is twisted to perfection right down to the three neatly wrapped "lock twists." And those lock twists help keep our plain steel strings from unraveling or breaking prematurely. Each and every spool of precision drawn high carbon steel wire we use goes through three quality control tests before it hits our inventory shelves.

Pioneering innovative string design has been a D'Addario family tradition for nine generations. Most guitar players don't realize that the inner core wire in all D'Addario steel strings is made from carefully drawn, hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel wire. The six "edges" of the core wire bite into the softer wrap wire, securing it all along its length. The hexagon core is just one of the reasons D'Addario strings are "Better by Design." Hexagonally shaped high carbon steel core wire. Core wire edges dig in to the wrap wire to insure a tight bond between the core and the wrap wire.

"ALL WOUND UP"
Feature:
The wound 3rd string holds true tone longer, more "gliss"

Quality:
Thick enough to hold tonality and thin enough that finger pressure is minimal

Sound:
Responsive with light touch and good for various styles of fingering

Overall:
Round wound strings have brilliant tone they're good if you like glissening up/down the frets Flatwound strings could help someone starting out to play and have sensitive finger tips. Transitions are easier.

"Wrap It Up"
Feature:
Wrapped third stays in tune. It's what I have been looking for over 40 years.

Quality:
If you want to stay the G to sound balanced with the rest of the strings, use a wrapped third.

Value:
I have had my set on for a year of steady playing.

Sound:
The only reason I did not rate this a 10 is the less "bendability" of the third string, which is wrapped, unlike most other sets sold.

Ease of Use:
Hey, you pluck the strings.

Support:
Unknown. Who would try to claim a warranty on a guitar string?
