Loud and Clear Performance

The CVP2153's power haul, fidelity and and high SPL handling make it the king of passive PA loudspeakers. Dual 15-inch woofers and a 44 mm diaphragm tweeter ensure that every member of the audience can feel the beat. Handling 1000 Watts RMS and 2000 Watts peak power, the Cerwin-Vega CVP-2153 is powerful in its own right, even without active components. Punchy lows, balanced mids, and sparkling highs, here we come. Oversized magnets and bi-amp functionality help push that power to the crowd, while a Mylar high-frequency driver sweetens and smooths tones and a rotatable horn provides direct pattern control.

Cerwin Vega CVP-2153 3-Way Loudspeaker

The Cerwin-Vega CVP2153 3-way PA Loudspeaker is a Non-Amplified Speaker System. While non-amplified speakers are traditionally referred to as passive, there is nothing passive about the CVP speaker line. In-your-face bass, an aggressive look with the trademark Cerwin-Vega barbecue grill, pristine highs, rugged construction and high output levels allow the CVPs to match the performance of their biggest, baddest folded horns, a claim that very few speakers in the world can make.

To live up to this claim, the engineers at Cerwin-Vega have taken a fresh approach. Cast aluminum frames for strength and reliability, oversized magnets for output power, and even a few tricks gleaned from Cerwin-Vega's patented Stroker technology all ensure that the CVP speakers play loud, play strong, gig after gig. And the sound? By themselves, the CVP speakers provide monstrous SPL, and amazing low end with the fidelity of a studio monitor. For most gigs, a pair of CVP2153s or CVP-1152s will be all you will ever need. But if you really want to make some noise, pair a CVP with a Cerwin-Vega active or passive subwoofer, and the system will bring down the house!

Speaking of pairing, the CVP Series is designed to team up perfectly with any Cerwin-Vega subwoofer.

A rotatable horn for concise pattern control, a Mylar high frequency driver for smooth high end, 12 fly points for suspension, and bi amp functionality are just a few of the other powerful features of the CVP series. And don't forget about the look. A Cerwin-Vega System looks stunning, with brushed aluminum grills, rugged paint, and the trademark Cerwin-Vega red speaker surrounds. Cerwin-Vega speakers not only play loud, they look loud!

First of all I want to say thanks to zZounds for making my purchase easy and affordable. I simply want to say that your the best at what you do. Secondly I truly am glad Cerwin-Vega holds a similar interest of putting quality and value in their speakers so folks like us can be rest assured their hard earned money isn't going to waste. I ordered these speakers last week along with HOSA Speakon cables and a Crown xls2000 (future review). These will be replacing my TZ-9's which are good speakers but are no match for these. I bought a CVA-121 (which I reviewed separately) 2 months ago from zZounds to improve my sounds on my PC, it soon became apparent that it overwhelmed my mains I wanted something that matched the CVA-121 and decided the CVP-2153's were appropriate. These are a little heavy but can be moved by one person if lifted with knees and keeping your center of gravity close to the front grills, a dolly would be better. Using speakons for cables was a first for me and found them conveniently easy to connect. I was a little reserved about buying 2153's because they didn't appear to be having a midrange driver just 2 woofers. I almost pulled the trigger on JBL PRX735 powered speakers but I kept on seeing the 3-way on the 2153's and good reviews on the mid balance so I gave them a try. I was very pleasantly surprised at the fine details in the highs and especially the mid ranges! I never would guess that a 15" driver could produce such detailed sounds in the mids. I guess read more when they put 3-way in the description they were telling the truth. The two 15" play different frequency's which was a very nice surprise and I thought it was just a typo in the description. If I was going to give these a nickname I would call them "gentle giants". They have an amazing gentle sounding finesse like I would hear in JBL studio monitors, you hear the voices of singers so clearly. I cranked up the volume and they stayed very detailed and clear with no distortion. They play great right out of the box with very little EQing. I really do recommend getting a cva series sub from cerwin vega because it does fill the bottom end very nicely. I recommend more power in your amps to achieve higher SPL's for those folks out there making a living with these. My single xls2000 only achieves about 40% of the 2153's SPL's, for home bedroom use for movies and music it is more than adequate. The build quality of these are similar to a rhino. They can take any abuse that you can throw at it. Just let you guys know that these cabs are V shaped and are 18" wide at the grill and are 13.5" wide in the back. I was expecting the cabs to be square shaped because all the descriptions I read never mentioned V shape or trapezoid. Apparently this shape doesn't hurt the sound quality. These with a cva-121 look so bad azz and sound so good I highly recommend these!
