Clayton Phat Tone Guitar Picks (3-Pack)

No longer available at zZounds
Perfect for bassists, the Phat-Tone guitar picks in this three-pack have a soft outer rubber and ridged inner core designed to replicate your fingers.

Designed specifically for bass players! The Clayton Phat-Tone was designed to provide bass players the feel and tone your fingers produce. It is a dual durometer (hardness) guitar pick having a soft outer rubber with a ridged inner core. The rubber replicates your skin, while the ridged inner core provides a fast response and punchy tone. Clayton provide Phat-Tone in 3 shapes: Rounded Triangle, Standard and Small Teardrop. Although the Small Teardrop is too small for use with a Bass, it works great for Ukulele playing.

I gave these a try to see if they really sound like fingers on a bass guitar. To me they sound pretty much like other picks, though they have their own sort of tone. I like the tone, they just don't sound like fingers to me, except when I let my fingernails grow a bit. My fingers then sound like picks. Don't get me wrong, these are nice picks, they're really stiff, good for bass guitar. The only bad thing is they smell terrible. Hopefully the smell will fade. If you keep them away from your nose, I guess they're all right. Then again, they're not THAT type of pick :-) I tried these with round wound strings, I'll soon try them with a bass with flats, they might be even better, flats always sound good with picks to me. I think they're worth a try.
