Celestion Cream Alnico Guitar Speaker (90 Watts, 12")

Hear decidedly vintage tone from any amp you hook up to this killer speaker. Crank out up to 90 watts of warm lows and smooth midrange through the Cream.

The Celestion Cream has been specially created to bring alnico class to all kinds of amps from 1-watt to 90-watts. With a 90-watt power rating, the Cream is purpose-built for vintage tones, whatever kind of amp you use. Celestion is able to deliver a higher power rating while preserving the very essence of an alnico guitar speaker by applying technologies and manufacturing methods developed during the creation of their Creamback speakers.

The Cream delivers a glorious, laid-back attack and exudes warm lows and a brilliant bell-like chime. It has smooth and organic mids, further characterized by a fine-grained detail that adds a high-definition quality to the vocal range. It conveys a satisfying warmth, detailed expressiveness and exceptional musicality, even at low power levels.

To put it succinctly, this speaker is phenomenal. Straight out of the box, it's smooth, it's balanced, and it's loud. It pairs well with almost everything I've thrown at it. It plays well in both open and closed-back cabinets. And it can handle virtually any amount of power and nearly any kind of genre you can throw at it. In a 1x12, open-back cabinet, this is a smooth, creamy speaker with a balanced EQ, and a nice, round bass. It compares well to a vintage Mueller blackback, but with more body and rounder highs. Otherwise, it has the same characteristics of other Alnico speakers: airy, compressed, and a spongy attack. In a 2x12, closed-back cabinet, it's an absolute beast. For starters, it sounds great with a closed cab, which is something I can't say for other Alnico speakers I've tried (especially the Blue). The bass response is unbelievable, but it doesn't get muddy or boomy. In fact, I would love to have four of these in a 4x12 if I ever win the lottery. It also coupled well with nearly every speaker I threw at it, especially the Creamback-75, G12T-75, and Vintage 30 which give it some treble that it naturally lacks. I also like it with a standard G12M Greenback, though not as much (there’s also a large power handling discrepancy there). I did not like it with the Classic Lead or Heritage 55, as the low mids overpower everything. Ultimately, this is the best speaker I've ever played, and it isn't even broken in. With a Marshall Plexi, the 75/Cream combo gives me the tone read more I've always heard in my head. I love the compression the Alnico gives and how great it responds to humbuckers in a set-neck slab of mahogany. It handles everything from light and bouncy '50s rock'n'roll to tuned-down, modern stoner rock and mushy doom metal. I really can't emphasize enough how great this speaker is. If you're on the fence because of the price, yes, it's expensive, but it's definitely worth it.
