Body Shape

The Breedlove Dreadnought is slightly more rounded than traditional dreadnoughts, producing beautifully full, punchy, and articulate tones. The Dreadnought appeals to players inspired by the familiarity of a dreadnought, who are looking for nuance and richness from their instrument. The Breedlove Dreadnought projects well, so it excels in an ensemble, and yet retains the refinement needed for vocal accompaniment.

Top

Sitka spruce is grown in the Pacific Northwest, and has been the primary top wood for U.S.A. instruments for many decades. It is strong and light with extended harmonic read more content, and nearly equals the power of Adirondack.

Back and Sides

Sapele is similar both visually and tonally to dense mahogany, but both darker and harder, giving it a strong visual presence and a bit more upper-harmonic content and low-end clarity. It's a good choice for many sizes and shapes, and works well for strumming and fingerstyle.

Hand-Crafted Neck

A satin-finished nato mahogany neck with volute makes the neck comfortable and easy to play. The volute adds strength to the break angle of the headstock. It also acts as a thumb rest for chords played in open and first positions.

Electronics

The LR Baggs Element pickup and the Breedlove LR-TCV preamp give you great plugged-in sound. The back-lit, colored LED tuner also allows you to see if you're in tune on a dark stage. This set-up lets you play with confidence, so you can focus on your performance.

Aesthetic Appointments

Lustrous full-gloss finish, a beautiful single-ring abalone rosette, offset position markers and attractive black binding give a rich, upscale appearance.

Set-Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon USA

Our comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play great right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by our expert U.S. Quality Control Team. We start with a visual inspection: checking aesthetic and structural elements of the body, and all components, for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where our craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, we then adjust for maximum playability. Next, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.

I received the guitar on time and in great shape. I was very pleased with the overall sound. But I do not believe that it was inspected 100% by Breedlove as it claims. There are a few high frets that result in a buzzing sound. I changed the strings and made adjustments and the buzz was still there. The saddle was shaved down too small and this increased the buzz from the high frets. Luckily, a new saddle was included. This one will be shaved down but a little higher. To sum it up, this is a great guitar and plays great once it has been "Professionally" set up. Be prepared to have this set up by a professional. Our other guitarist is also a guitar tech. So, I got lucky and didn't have to go through the hassle of returning the guitar.
