Boss BR-600 8-Track Digital Recorder

Like the Boy Scouts famously advise, Be Prepared with the Boss BR-600 digital recorder. The BR-600 is a multi-track recorder, guitar effects processor and drum machine built into one compact package.

Let's be honest with ourselves, friends, we don't get to decide when inspiration hits. Although we'd all love to believe we can lock ourselves in a room for 5 hours and emerge with the next Born To Run, more often than not, the idea for our next opus comes while sitting at the car wash. Or in the bathroom. Or on vacation. All we can do is keep our guitar close, our minds open and the Boss BR-600 within reach.

The BR-600 is a multi-track recorder, powerful guitar effects processor and intuitive drum machine built into one ultra-sleek, portable package.

Multi-Track Recorder

There are two ways two record with the Boss BR-600, you can use the built-in stereo condenser microphones or hook up your favorite external mics via the two balanced 1/4" inputs. Boss even took the liberty to include an XLR to 1/4" TRS adapter cable, because they're so thoughtful like that. After you've selected a method to your miking, you've got 8 simultaneous playback tracks and a whopping 64-total tracks with which to work your magic. When you're all done, hook the unit up to your computer's USB port to back up your entire machine or export individual tracks as .wav files. This way, your songwriter friend in Luxembourg can send you a song he's been working on, you can load it into your BR-600, lay down a few solo takes and send them each back to him...regardless of the recording software he uses. Brilliant.

Guitar Effects Processor

The BR-600 comes complete with Boss' famous COSM modeling read more (Composite Object Sound Modeling) which means it's got a full guitar processor built right into the unit. Does your track call for a clean acoustic tone or smooth jazz timbre? Maybe you need a gritty rock sound or a face-melting solo tone...built-in COSM modeling means you have access to a wide variety of sound types at all times. Layer a blazing heavy-gain solo over a clean rhythm guitar track or use the modeling to simulate a funky bass line and create your own accompaniment.

Drum Machine

The good folks at Boss were kind enough to build a full 12-button drum trigger set right into the BR-600. With 327 different drum patterns and 8 different drum sets you've got a whole range of accompaniment possibilities at your fingertips. And, because they're velocity-sensitive, the harder you hit a pad, the louder the drum sounds making it even easier to accurately mimic real drum sounds.

The BR-600 comes with a 128MB flash card, an XLR to 1/4" TRS cable, a stylin' carrying case and AA batteries that will power the BR-600 for around 6 hours.

I love this thing.
Sound
Great sound.
Features
This thing has many features, so many, it took me over a week learning how to use only some and I havent even started yet.
Ease of Use
I would not say it is easy to use because it does so many things, it takes some time to learn how to use them all.
Quality
Its made by Roland, what do you expect? Great engineering.
Value
Good price.
Manufacturer Support
Regarding support, it took me a while to find the memory cards for it as hardley anyone makes less than one gig but I did find. Delkin Devices sells 1gig, and even less. It is good to have small memory cards as you can keep them just like you would keep your tapes.
The Wow Factor
Looks great.
