I was looking for a 50 watt tube amp that could be used for studio, live performance, and home playing, and I found a gem. This amp sounds awesome at low volumes, but when you crank it up, the tube power really shows. It took some dialing in, but once I was able to get the tone stack and ISF where I wanted, I couldn't be more pleased. The distortion channel is amazing - with enough gain for anyone. But, the clean channel really blew me away - very responsive with a rich body. The only change I made was to all Mullard tubes, which really livened it up - it came stock with TAD. The only change I would make is to the speaker cabinet. The speakers that came with the cab are the Celestion seventy 80's - not to much bottom end or articulation. I've listened to the head with Vintage 30's and it was night and day - much fuller. The best speakers I have listened to with this head are the Mojotone Greyhounds - throw those in and you won't be sorry! Also, It would have been nice to have footswitchable voicings in the distortion and clean channel - they are only push button. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and love Blackstar. I recommend everyone play a Blackstar!
