With switchable omni/cardioid/figure-8 pickup patterns, the Aston Spirit is a workhorse condenser mic, delivering detailed sound without high-end harshness.

The Aston SPIRIT is a high-performance, switchable pattern, microphone utilizing a 1" gold evaporated capsule. A switch on the mic body selects from Omni, Cardioid or Figure-of-Eight polar patterns. It is versatile enough to use with most instruments and excels on acoustic guitar and vocals. Its hand-selected capsule is teamed with high-end transformer balanced circuitry using only the best components.

The Spirit is designed to deliver a beautifully open sound with sparkling harmonics. This highly accurate microphone gives a stunningly natural and transparent recording, capturing all the detail in the high range but without adding the harshness that some condenser microphones seem to.

Wave-Form Mesh Head

The Aston Origin has a signature wave-form mesh head. This unique design not only looks great, but delivers an unprecedented degree of protection for the heart of your microphone, the capsule. The shock resistant wave-form design allows the head of the mic to distort if given a heavy knock, and then return to its normal position, without any damage at all. It also offers a degree of off-axis rejection, helping to eliminate unwanted artifacts from your recordings.

Built In Pop Filter

Aston's vocal condenser microphones have an exclusive mesh-knit pop filter built into the wave-form head. The random weave allows sound to pass while virtually eliminating unwanted plosives at source. It also shields against multiple wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation making read more their microphones ideal in critically sensitive electronic applications. This completely encapsulating, single piece, mesh cage is formed in stainless steel, so won't rust with use, and can even be removed and washed.

End Caps

Yet another unique design element of the Aston Origin, is the use of custom moulded end caps with integrated XLR and stand adaptor. No other mic has this. Because the internal shock absorption system is so good, you can mount the microphone directly to a stand via this built in, and interchangeable thread adapter. The design also makes Aston microphones extremely easy to repair and maintain.

Chassis

Part of the beauty of Aston microphones is the custom finish of each chassis. There are no mass-produced paint job finishes here... instead, each chassis is individually tumbled for up to 4 hours to give it a very hard-wearing, and extremely beautiful, finish. To perfect the look, each microphone is separately engraved with its legends, and the brand mantra... 'The art of performance'

PCB

- Superbly balanced mix of discrete and integrated electronic circuitry.
- Harmonized circuit stage arrangement for easy integration from phantom power input circuitry to capsule voltage bias.
- A novel non-linear voltage/current source rectification to provide controlled amplification and smooth/ clear audio.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

When it comes to packaging Aston believes simplicity is king. Protective, re-useable, environmentally sensible packaging that doesn't cost the earth.

I bought the Aston Spirit because I was working on an album with a reggae band and my normal go to vocal mic took a crap on me. I needed a new vocal mic and fast. First I ordered the slate VMS mic because I had heard many good things about it but the problem was it was on back order for weeks and I didn't have time to wait, so I went on zZounds and found the Aston spirit. Now I'm not one to buy before I try but since the mic was only 399 and zZounds has a great return policy I decided what the heck, I mean every review I had read up to that point only had good things to say about the mic. The Aston arrived 2 days later and I had our first vocal session that night so I threw it up and plugged it into my Warm Audio TB12 and WOW! The Aston has a sound of its own but its a very beautiful sound. I have used it on low male vocals, high male vocals and acoustic guitar so far. For Vocals it has a nice bright sound but not overly sibilant. I had to do almost no post processing on my vocals because they sounded good straight though the Warm audio TB12 and a distressor. I did add a de esser but very subtle. I haven't compared this mic with any others yet but I can tell you with certainty that the Aston is a great sounding mic and if some one didn't tell you before that it was only 400 dollars you would think you're holding a 3000$ mic. The mic feels like a quality mic, its got weight to it, not a light plastic feel, and the brushed steel finish with the custom steel mesh around the capsule read more makes it easy on the eyes. Once I get my u87 fixed I am going to do a shoot out between the aston, slate vms, u87. and shure sm7b and see how they compare!
