What's special about this item?

Feature: What it does:
Dreadnought body shape Traditional shape and sound; familiar feel
Solid Sitka spruce top Projects rich, crisp and responsive tone
Rosewood back and sides Warm tone with long sustain
Round laminated fingerboard Historic applique of rosewood fretboard

In a sea of me-too acoustics, the ARD70 from Alvarez is truly unique. The fusion of the quintessential singer-songwriter slope-shoulder body and a 12-fret slot-head neck creates a look, feel, and tone that are unlike anything else in its price range. At the heart of the ARD70's amazing tone is its hand-sanded scalloped bracing, which allows the top to resonate more freely without compromising strength & stability. Alvarez's rosewood bi-level bridge puts more down-pressure on the bone saddle, creating a more efficient energy transfer from the strings to the top, giving you more volume than you ever thought possible from a guitar in this price range. And with its hand-selected rosewood back & sides, you get all that big, warm bottom-end rosewood is known for at a groundbreaking price. Alvarez also refined their neck profile, with a thinner, faster neck that plays easier, yet still feels solid in your hands. The ARD70 is a tone machine that's just waiting to take your playing to the next level.

"Alvarez ARD70 Acoustic Guitar"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I bought my ARD-70 used. It was pretty cheap--around $200. It was my first dreadnaught sized 12 fret. I am very pleased with the intonation, playability and feel of this instrument. In contrast to the other review I saw on this site, I think the ARD-70 is an excellent instrument, and Alvarez should be commended for making such a high quality, affordable instrument. Since purchasing this guitar, I have added a Larrivee 12 fret and a Collings 12 Fret to my collection. The Collings is the best, followed closely by the Alvarez. I would not recommend the Larrivee. One last thing: The pickguard is awful looking!
