Recording with the PalmTrack is easy and flexible. Just insert the included batteries and SD card and press record! You can monitor while recording in headphones and watch the real-time level meters, or just switch on Auto Mic Gain and let the PalmTrack take the hassle out of recording. When you're done recording, you can check out your recordings on the PalmTrack's built-in speaker, using your own headphones, connecting the PalmTrack to your Mac or PC with its mini USB jack, or by removing the SD card and inserting it into your computer's SD card slot or reader.

While you're tracking, you'll be able to easily tell that the PalmTracking is recoding thanks to its red Record light. You can easily switch the mics' gain from high to low with the left-side switch, and you can adjust the input level with the up and down buttons on the right.

You can choose between 44.1 and 48kHz sample rates, select an MP3 bitrate from 64 to 320kbps for maximum recording time, or choose uncompressed 16 or 24-bit WAV for broadcast-quality recording. For all-in-one recording, the PalmTrack has FOUR microphones housed in its protective grille. You can select two mics for stereo pickup pattern, four mics for omnidirectional pickup pattern, plug your own mic into the PalmTrack's 1/8-inch mic input, or any line-level source into its 1/8-inch line input.

The PalmTrack also gives you powerful processing onboard, including bass compensation for reducing the proximity effect in close-miked situations, as well as Chorus, Pitch Shift, Delay, and Reverb settings for adding flavor and creative effects to your recordings. There's also an MP3 voice cancelling more that enables you remove vocals from MP3s. On top of all of that, there's even a handy tuner!

The PalmTrack has a bright, clear OLED display that shows you blue-on-black text and metering information, even in a dark club. It records running on the two included AA batteries, or using an optional power adapter. A 1/4"-20 threaded mounting point enables you to mount the PalmTrack on a mic stand with the optional ProTrack Adapter, on a table with the optional ProTrack Tripod table stand, or on a camera tripod for hands-free tracking.

Sound: Good mics. You have to place it in the right spot though cause the mics are sensitive. It picked up some distortion sometimes because I didn't adjust levels while the device was too close. Feature: No need for more, but it would be perfect to be able to do wav at 24/94. Ease of Use: easy. Quality: Could be more sturdy..at least he mic grill could be made of metal or something. Eats batteries, so use rechargeable batteries or look for a generic 3V ac/dc adapter. Value: For the price, it's a good sounding device. Manufacturer Support: Alesis never pick up the phone...they should also have a better instruction booklet for user manual. Overall: I should by a higher end Tascam or Zoom, but for the money, this one has enough features. Make sure you use protective case at all times! I really wish it would be sturdier, but the plastic coating is a scratch proof.

Sound: I'm hard to please when it comes to sound, and I wasn't expecting a super sound from a small inexpensive handheld recorder; however, I am well pleased with the sound quality,especially when played back through a studio system. Feature: You can certainly pay more for more "bells and whistles" but I got what I wanted and needed with the PalmTrack. It fits in my pocket and will automaticly set your record level - two of the features i wanted most. Ease of Use: I don't know how you can get any easier or simpler to use. Just turn it on and hit record. Quality: I have always like Alesis for a good "bang for the buck". The PalmTrack is also a good product. My only concern was in the little plastic door that holds the "SD" card. it has no real latch to hold it closed, only little plastic bumps on the door. It works, however I don't think it would be a good idea to continually open and close the door. Value: As far as i am concerned, this is an excellent product for the price. The quality to price ratio is super. I always "comparitive shop" and the PalmTrack was my pick for an inexpensive handheld. Most of the online music equipment stores are pretty close in price. For the PalmTrack, ZZounds beat their competition by a lot. Manufacturer Support: I have not had to talk with the folks at Alesis for over ten years, so I can't say how they are to work with today. back when i did have a question they were helpful. The Wow Factor: You can pay a lot more for more "sex appeal", but the PalmTrack does what it was designed to do. Overall: The PalmTrack is an all-in-one hand size digital recorder; great for getting music quickly and easily. That's what it does; and very well. It will give you a great demo or recording live shows. It won't take the place of a million dollar studio, but for what it does, it's great.
