Express Yourself, Don't Repress Yourself
At the heart of the MAX49 is the key bed with 49 semi-weighted keys with aftertouch, ready to go for any player wanting to add a bit of natural-sounding expression to a performance. Straightforward transport controls are located at the top center of the controller, providing intuitive track navigation. Rubberized pitch and mod wheels are off to the side, so you can play with your right hand and tweak your tones with your left.
Other essential features include an expanded arpeggiator, which has a Latch button, plus eight different time divisions to create sweeping melodic riffs; and a built-in step sequencer that will help you lay down the bare bones of a track.
Feel the Beat
All you want to do is make beats? Go for it: the MAX49 outdoes itself with 4 banks of 12 backlit MPC pads, for a total of 48 assignable pads. With this controller on hand, your recording sessions and live performances will benefit from true MPC-style production tools, without your having to lug around a standalone MPC. The MAX49's backlit, velocity-sensitive pads offer classic MPC Swing, Note Repeat, Full Level, and navigation controls for a complete music-creation experience.
Thanks to the 4 banks of 8 backlit LED touch faders, you can assign up to 32 control parameters. If you're familiar with analog faders, you will know exactly what to do with the MAX49's LED touch faders: just drag your finger along the touch strips, or carry out instant leaps in any MIDI value from zero on up.
Works With All Your Existing Gear
Yes, you can use the MAX49 with everything in your studio, whether it's new or old. The controller sports USB MIDI, traditional 5-pin DIN MIDI, and CV and Gate outputs, allowing you to control music software, analog synths, vintage gear, and more. Built-in Mackie Control and HUI protocols provide compatibility with major digital audio workstations (DAWs).
The MAX49 includes Akai Connect automatic-mapping software, which makes it a snap to assign touch faders, MPC pads, and buttons to your plugins. All you have to do is click on the software unit you want to control, and then touch whatever part of the MAX49 you want to assign. As a bonus, the controller also comes with Ableton Live Lite Akai Edition software.
