Mixcraft 5 features 8 powerful virtual instruments, including the Acoustica Instruments General MIDI sample library, Acoustica Expanded Instruments sample library, Lounge Lizard Session vintage electric piano, VB3 tonewheel organ, MiniMogueVA monophonic analog synthesizer, Messiah polyphonic analog synthesizer, Alien303 Bass Synthesizer, and Impulse polyphonic analog synthesizer. Create mega presets that layer and split multiple virtual synthesizers and effects. Set the key range, velocity sensitivity, transposition, pan and volume for each instrument.

Overall: I downloaded the trial version of this software, plugged in my guitar effects processor into my USB, plugged in the guitar, and now I haven't been able to sleep at night. By this I mean, I have been recording songs and sending them to my friends on the computer until the wee hours of the morning. It lets you mix like a real mixer, plus click and drag sounds and move them around. My friends tell me the drums sound great, I haven't told them I sold my drum kit three years ago, and arranged the drums on the computer. Yes, putting a drumline together with software one crash and thump at a time, measure by measure, is tedious, but then you just copy and paste your verse again when the part comes around, and I never sounded this good with real drums. My only complaints, or suggestions for improving the software, as Mixcraft people will probably read this, are as follows: 1.) The amp models sound like pedals, not tube amps. It is nice having them to use, but my Digitech's amp models are better. 2.) Latency. Do any recording with a computer, and you will know what I mean. Monitor the incoming sound with your headphones long enough to get the sound, then turn it off, and play silently to record, or rig something up with your own amp so you can hear your guitar in real time. The playback and recording are not perfectly in sync with you, there is a short delay. You can also overcome this with a metronome and some clever planning. 3.) Wish this could be used for videos. All it does is audio. (sigh.) 4.) Auto-tune and Beat-matching are terrible things. If you need those, try painting instead of music. That said, messing around with this got some weird, alien sounds. 5.) I need a better way to input the drum rhythm than click and drag. It would be nice to use the guitar, or bass, or beatbox, and then replace that sound with the recorded drums and cymbals. Did I just invent something cool here? I couldn't afford Pro Tools. I found this online, and thought, "Po' Tools!" Actually, having used this a while, I really like it a lot and am going to stick with this software. Overall, for seventy bucks, do it. This will get you going, you can always record your songs again with more expensive stuff, or newer technology in the future.

Sound: Second to none. For me it is going to be long relationship with this software. I am sort of a trial and error guy and I have found some very interesting things on my own with this software. The tutorials are helpful but sometimes you just have to dive in there and find out for yourself what limitations you have and don't have. Feature: I could not find any least features of this software. For my guitars though I still use my Janglebox for compression and sustain. I use the softwares reverb, a touch of chorus and their EQ. Ease of Use: It is very easy to get the sounds that you are looking for but like any software you are going to have to experiment to find that sweet spot for yourself just like I did. The learning curve is a no-brainer. Quality: Very well engineered and designed. Again, I can't say it enough that if you are a soloist like me, this is the software for you. Not a lot of frills but just good old sounds most acoustic guitar players are looking for. Organic/Analog so to speak. Value: The price is very reasonable. Manufacturer Support: No I've never contacted them as yet. The Wow Factor: I liked the ease of burning a CD from any of your projects. Overall: If you're a soloist like me, than this is the software for you. Just plain ordinary common sense and learning curve is not hard at all to master. Recording should be fun not frustratiing or aggravating. I like things simple/stupid and this is for me. What I like about it most is that recording your tracks to a CD is again very simple and you won't go thru a ton of menus to do so. I am just really impressed with this software. They must of had the soloist in mind when they engineered this. There is really nothing complicated about it. Plenty of onboard effects to please just about everybody. You will be laying down tracks in no time with this recording software I guarantee it. Don't just sit there; BUY IT!!
