Description
News
The Virus TI2 Desktop synth is a follow up to the widely acclaimed TI series of totally integrated synthesizers, gives you 25% more calculating power and a redesigned housing and front panel. Access has also supplied a major feature update, OS3, adding extra FX including Tape Delay, Frequency Shifter and a handful of Distortion algorithms along with a premier feature named Character.

Character allows you to adjust the tone of a preset, most of which resemble vintage and well-known synthesizers, and emphasize certain aspects of the patch to allow it to cut better through the mix or fade it into the background with an extra-wide stereo field. The distortions were built from scratch and feature an extreme dynamic range along with sophisticated controls to tailor the sound to your specific needs. They can add everything from warm, tube-like overtones to complete sonic deconstruction more reminiscent of circuit-bending. The added algorithms also include a revamped bit and sampling-rate reduction, allowing you to change the quality and cutoff point with precise, continuously variable control.

The stereo Frequency Shifter and the new Ring Modulator are state of the art algorithms modelled with old '70s stomp boxes in mind.

The Tape Delay goes way beyond the possibilities of the real Tape Delays in the '60s and '70s. It smoothly syncs to tempo, lets you decide if a Doppler effect takes place when changing the tempo, and even switching the delay time between presets is all smooth, making it perfect for performers. Last but not least, a modification to the main VCA algorithm enables OS3 users to design gating FX known from electro and minimal influenced music.

Virus Control has received a completely redesigned user-interface thanks to various improvement requests over the last years. The plug-in now features a side chain input allowing you to mangle audio from a sequencer track with the FX and sound engine of the hardware Virus (for selected hosts only).

The best news, however, is that OS3 is compatible with all legacy Virus TIs and the Virus TI Snow, thus enabling Access' vast user base to update their existing instruments with all the new software features totally free of charge.

"Impressive Synthesizer by Access (drum n bass, house, and hip hop)"
Feature:
There are the usual suspects as far as oscillators, filters, and patches. The factory presets are some of the best I've heard. I was pretty amazed by that. Looks like the engineers behind this thing love it enough to play with it and add to it's banks. Didn't give this thing a 10 because Access, as of yet, has not released a x64 bit version of Total Integration--this is a major issue.

Quality:
Out of the box it is a wonderfully crafted piece of equipment. Feels good to the touch and has lots of pulsing lights that grab your attention. Loudest little synth light show I have in my studio.

Value:
Easily worth the coins you spend. When you look at this thing after you give it the first go around you will probably realize that it's here (in your studio) to stay.

Desirability:
The knobs are sturdy and feel good to the touch and to the turn. The pulsing lights dance responsively and respectively according to settings. If you haven't seen one in action, youtube it and watch her flash.

Sound:
The sound produced by the Access Virus Ti is forthright, powerful, rich, and honest. There are no strange anomalies present in any of the sounds it produces. The synthesizer is a wonderful piece to have and adds bright, powerful sounds to any mix. Impressive.

Ease of Use:
Very intuitive. It will be up and running on a DAW or as a standalone instantly after installation and configuring of your hardware.

Support:
The people at Access are excellent; again, the only problem I have is no support of x64 bit operating systems. This is very essential for those of us who use lots of instances of plug-ins and utilize rigs boasting more than 3.2gb of good RAM. I can not overstate this. Sorry, no 10 for the team until this issue is resolved.

Overall:
I decided to get a virus because I am a firm believer in the power of computer music. The 'total integration' schema was very attractive. Access provides frequent updates and a few popular electronic musicians provide custom banks for downloading. I will use this thing for years to come. I want to just bury myself in it's sounds and produce music where the Virus is in charge of all leads; I suppose I could experiment like this for a year or so. I do this just so I can truly survey what she can do.
