Ableton Live 9 Intro Music Production Software

No longer available at zZounds
Want to learn Ableton Live? The "lite" Live 9 Intro gives you 700+ sounds, Ableton's powerful time-stretching tools, and audio recording at 192 kHz/32-bit.

If you want to dive in to Ableton's Live digital audio workstation (DAW) but you don't want to drop hundreds of bucks to get it, check out Ableton Live 9 Intro. This streamlined version of the music-production software includes just what you need to record, arrange, edit, sequence, and finalize tracks. And at $99, it provides an incredibly affordable way to create professional-sounding recordings. Regardless of your experience with music software, you'll find that Live 9 Intro is easy to use and quite powerful.

Ableton Live 9 Intro supports 2 mono outputs, or a single stereo output. If you're a digital DJ, check out the full version of Ableton Live -- you'll want at least 4 mono outputs so you can have a stereo main mix, plus a stereo "cue out" for previewing loops and tracks in your headphones.

Intuitive in Every Way

Live 9 Intro offers a unique Session View for making tracks, performing live, and improvising on the fly. Within the Session View environment, you can work any which way you like, and capture song ideas, record loops, drag and drop complete song sections and loops, overdub, and so forth. How you work within the software is up to you. One of the nice things about Ableton Live (any version) is that you can figure it out on your own by poking around and trying things, rather than referencing a 600-page+ manual.

Is This Version Skinny or Phat? Both!

Enjoy up to 16 tracks of audio and MIDI recording at up to 192 kHz/32-bit resolution, plus support for 8 read more Scenes. Also edit, manipulate, and refine your audio with a host of editing tools and the awesome feature known as unlimited undo. In addition, Live 9 Intro gives you powerful MIDI sequencing of both software and hardware instruments, real-time time-stretching and warping options, and multiple automation lanes. With Session View automation, all your parameter changes and knob/fader movements are memorized, so you never have to remember what you just did. You can record two audio inputs and monitor 2 audio outputs, and you have two Send and Return tracks.

Built-In Instruments, Sounds, and Effects

Three of Ableton's killer instruments -- Drum Rack, Impulse, and Simpler -- allow you to create and layer sounds, make beats, and sample to your heart's content. The Drum Rack instrument features a familiar 16-pad grid for layering samples, synths, and effects, while the Impulse drum sampler offers advanced modulation tools. Simpler is a simple yet powerful sampler with classic, highly tweakable synthesis parameters.

On a separate disc, you get over 700 sounds covering a range of drums and percussion, synth sounds, construction kits, loops, and more. Specifically, Live 9 Intro includes four sound packs: Designer Drums (synthesized drums), Digicussion 1 (drums and percussion for electronic, experimental, and other rhythmic music), Loopmasters Mixtape (samples and loops), and Unnatural Selection (samples, Live Clips, and Demo Songs from Puremagnetik). If that's not enough for you, you can add more plug-ins or samples as you go.

A comprehensive collection of audio and MIDI effects are included as well: Arpeggiator, Auto Filter, Auto Pan, Beat Repeat, Chord, Chorus, Compressor, EQ Three, Erosion, Flanger, Gate, Grain Delay, Limiter, Looper, Note Length, Phaser, Ping Pong Delay, Pitch, Random, Redux, Reverb, Saturator, Scale, Simple, Delay, Utility, and Velocity.

I first bought PreSonus Recording package which included the Studio One 3 software and have done nothing but rack my brains on how it's supposed to work! (I also had to make a few other changes with hardware; but when I got everything up to par with Ableton, I had no trouble choosing the right sound pads, making the needed adjustments, adding piano, with a little work I've been able to figure out how to make the needed timing adjustments with the velocity and synthesizer tool. I'm motivated to keep making the best of my music!
