zZounds Gear Experts Say...
The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II is a lightweight, great-sounding guitar. With two Alnico Classic humbuckers and a NanoMag pickup, the Les Paul Ultra II rocks.

Building on the heritage of the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra (introduced to an adoring public in 2005), the Les Paul Ultra II has all of the touches and specs you've come to love in the Ultra, with a few extras hiding beneath the hood. What would a Les Paul be without a pair of fat, warm humbuckers? The Les Paul Ultra II doesn't disappoint, utilizing two in-your-face AlNiCo Classics. The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II's body is chambered Mahogany with a quilted Maple cap for light weight and heavy tone. The slim-taper set neck on the Les Paul Ultra II is made of Mahogany, and when coupled with the Epiphone-engineered LockTone bridge and tailpiece, the sustain rings loud and clear. The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II is available in Faded Cherry and Midnight Ebony finshes with gold hardware, and to top it off you'll find Grover die-cast tuners on the 3-to-a-side headstock.

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II: A Change Would Do You Good

If this guitar were just built on the features we've already mentioned, the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II would be a tick in the win column. But Epiphone didn't rest on their laurels, and they take the Les Paul Ultra II right over the top and into the upper stratosphere of tone. I bet you noticed something going on just after the 22nd fret on the bound Rosewood fingerboard, didn't you? That, my friend, is the Fishman NanoMag pickup, and arguably the coolest feature of the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II.

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II: More Than Meets the Eye

Fishman has fortified read more a tremendously strong reputation building acoustic pickups, preamps, and effects for many years, so it should come as no surprise that the Fishman designed NanoMag pickup built into every Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II is a must-hear. The acoustic tones are stunning and complex, with just the right amount of shimmer and shine, but what about changing the tone? We're glad you asked. Flip the Les Paul Ultra II over and you're treated to another surprise. That fingerboard-mounted NanoMag pickup has its very own Treble, Bass, and Gain controls, conveniently located on the normally-blank control cavity cover... try saying that 10 times fast. The front controls are also a bit of a departure from the norm. Instead of your usual array of dual volume and dual tone controls, the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II sports neck and bridge volumes, a master tone, and a NanoMag volume for blending tones when using the mono output jack. Wait, mono output jack? That's right--the Les Paul Ultra II has stereo outputs for either completely splitting the electric and acoustic signals, or for blending the two. Many players are sending the magnetic electric pickups to a guitar amp, and sending the acoustic NanoMag signal to an acoustic amplifier. Better yet, throw the acoustic output into a DI and right into the house to inject your strumming straight into the mixer. Everything is powered by an internal 9v battery, but don't fret--even if your battery dies, your passive humbuckers will still function perfectly well.

The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II is a revolutionary instrument in material, engineering, tone, and purpose. Featuring a combination of worldly good looks, classic and time-tested craftsmanship and specs, and modern, innovative features, this is a guitar ready to take on the world.

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II Guitar

The Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II is more than the Les Paul you expect - it's got enough extras to make it stand-alone must-have instrument for players of all stripes. Epiphone is known for starting revolutions. In 2005, Epiphone developed the first Les Paul to offer a chambered body, giving guitarists the opportunity to enjoy killer tone and sustain. That model was the original Les Paul Ultra.

Now Epiphone is changing the game again, as the original Les Paul Ultra is succeeded by the new Ultra II. The name is no surprise, but when you take a look at this guitar, its advancements definitely are.

Some things remain the same. Just as on the original Ultra, the Les Paul Ultra II offers a chambered mahogany body with a quilted maple cap, weighing much less then a Les Paul Standard while offering timeless Les Paul tone and endless sustain - but that's not the big reason why the new Les Paul Ultra II is set to steal the show.

The real revelation comes from the Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II's pairing of two Alnico Classic humbuckers and a fretboard-mounted NanoMag piezo pickup that allows guitarists to unlock shimmering acoustic tones, whether on stage or in studio. Whatever sound you're trying to get, this revolutionary hybrid model has got you covered.

1-I will keep this guitar forever,2-Nice addition to my collection,3-In comparing this guitar to others around this price range it is a solid guitar made by a company(Epiphone)I trust.4-The acoustic sound is real nice.5-If this guitar was lost(knock on wood)I would definitly replace it.6-I wish I knew about zZounds easy pay plan sooner I would have gotten the Ultra 2 a long time ago.7-What I like the most about the Ultra 2 is the price to quality ratio.

Sound
The acoustic sound for me is very satisfying, for songs like Over The Hills and Far Away(Zeppelin). The acoustic sound is captured very well by this guitar. It also handles the dirty sound very nicely,(different than my Gibson Les Paul Stuido-also very nice)each guitar has its own unique sound quality, the Ultra 2 sounds very nice and does exactly what it's supposed to,it give,s the player versitility.

Features
The guitar come's with a owner's manual, inspection card, sound cable, quick referance card for sound controls, and a warranty card.

Ease of Use
The controls are not comlpicated at all,the controls on the back of the Ultra 2 are clearly marked(Bass,Treble,Gain),the controls on the front give you control over the neck pick-up,bridge pick-up,nano-mag pick-up,and master voulume. As far as the controls on the back(Nano-Mag only)I usually just set'em and forget'em.

Quality
I read alot of reviews before read more I bought my Ultra 2 and thought that I might have a problem with quality control issues(loose parts, burrs on the frets,finish,ect..)the Ultra 2 that I received has absoultly none of these issues,it looks good, plays good, feels good and sounds great.

Value
The Ultra 2 is a exceptional value,if you can afford to spend thousands of dollars on a Gibson Les Paul go ahead, if not, get the Ultra 2-it is a solid guitar at a great price(you definitly won't regret it)

Manufacturer Support
Up to now I haven't had to contact Epiphone for any reason. There is a warranty card and information on how to contact Epiphone included with the guitar.

The Wow Factor
Part of the reason I bought the Ultra 2 is because of the quilt top,to me it has one of the most appealing finishes there is.The other reason is for the acoustic sounds.Put the two together and what do you have-"The Ultra 2".
