Compatible with just about all popular audio software and priced for anyone who wants to get into recording, M-Audio Fast Track Pro is your express route to making amazing recordings!

Connections For Hobbyist And Pro-Level Gear

Just about every computer sold today has at least one USB port. By connecting an M-Audio Fast Track Pro to that port you suddenly have a complete set of studio inputs and outputs that can handle a wide variety of professional recording gear. On the front panel you'll find the two XLR-1/4-inch combination jacks. These "combi" inputs accept either 1/4-inch instrument plugs for connecting keyboards, guitars, or basses, or three-pronged, balanced XLR cables for connecting just about any microphone on the market. Because the Fast Track Pro also provides true 48-volt phantom power (switchable on or off), you'll be able to connect anything from un-powered "dynamic" microphones to sensitive "condenser" microphones which require phantom power for operation. Along the back you'll also find balanced 1/4-inch TRS outputs for hooking up a pair of studio-quality reference monitor speakers, as well as RCA inputs and outputs for the ability to connect just about any audio read more gear (DJ mixers, CD players... lotsa stuff). Perhaps the most exciting feature for aspiring audio professionals is the Fast Track Pro's "insert" jacks on the input channels. These handy connectors allow you to place compressors, exciters, and other outboard gear where they're supposed to be in the signal chain--between the microphone preamp and analog-to-digital converters--and they're rarely found in interfaces at this price. The inclusion of MIDI input and output ports and S/PDIF digital I/O rounds out the M-Audio Fast Track Pro as a complete audio interface for your burgeoning studio.

Pristine Fidelity

You'll notice the M-Audio Fast Track Pro's most important feature as soon as you make your first recording: the sound! The pro-level fidelity on this USB interface is due both to its high-quality microphone preamps and its stable, high-resolution analog-to-digital converters. The converters are capable of digital recording resolutions of up to 24-bit, 96kHz. For comparison, CD Audio is encoded at 16-bits and 44.1kHz. With the Fast Track Pro's 24/94 resolution capability you'll capture more detail during recording and be able to mix with more accuracy during playback. Anyone who's ever used a microphone preamp knows how much they can contribute to--or detract from--the sound of your microphone. The preamps on M-Audio's Fast Track Pro have been engineered to work with as wide an array of microphones as possible by introducing minimal "color" into your signal and by, well, just plain sounding great!

Near-Universal Software Compatibility

The included drivers allow the M-Audio Fast Track Pro to work flawlessly with audio editing software on both Mac OSX and Windows PC platforms. Whether you use destructive editors like Bias Peak or Wavelab, or non-destructive Digital Audio Workstations like SONAR, Logic, or Cubase, the Fast Track Pro will tap into your software's recording potential. Best of all, the Fast Track Pro is compatible with Pro Tools M-Powered, a sophisticated edition of the professional standard in digital audio recording especially configured for use with M-Audio USB and FireWire interfaces.

This product is great for recording and playing back music. It's probably not the best product if you're a serious audiophile looking to produce a Grammy winning piece, but if you're a solo musician, hobbyist, or even just someone who wants to listen to their music in higher quality, this product is of fantastic value. It's easy to use, relatively easy to set up, provides everything you need to get to doing some pretty quality things.

Sound
Playback with this interface is such a step above what you are getting from the sound card that came in your computer. The clarity is incredible. The headphone amp could use to be a bit louder, but other than that, playback is fantasticly good sounding. When recording however, I couldn't get it to record in 24bit/96khz as the product claims it will, so I just left it in 16bit/44khz. Even at a lower than ideal setting the sound recorded was very clear with almost no latency (none that was too distracting.)

Features
Mine came with a USB cable, and some included software, but honestly, I didn't bother installing the included software because I run Sonar 8.5 Producer. It would've been nice if it would've included drivers that actually worked, but it was easy enough to get the Windows7 x64 drivers downloaded and running that I won't hold it against them too much.

Ease of Use
The drivers included were from a long time ago, and didn't support Windows 7. read more They did recently release new drivers for Win7 that worked just fine. All I had to do was install the drivers, reboot my computer, and it was working. I haven't gotten it to record in 24bit quality in Sonar yet, but honestly I haven't tried too hard because I'm getting trading my PC in for a MacBook Pro soo, however; it can probably be done. The actual hardware interface is easy to use though, everything makes sense.

Quality
I bought mine "blemished" but the only thing that was blemished about it was the packaging. It feels like it's made pretty well. The knobs have a nice resistance to them so that when you turn them they move smoothly and can make fine adjustments. I've been using it for about a week or so, and it hasn't crashed at all. I am lead to believe that most people who have problems with this interface actually have computer problems, or have no idea what they're doing.

Value
This product is a great value. Even if you only use it to listen to music through, you'll love the increase in sound quality. If you're a home studio musician, this interface gives you everything you need - two good sounding mic preamps, multiple outputs, and its even relatively portable.

Manufacturer Support
I gave it a 10 becuase I haven't had to contact them. In my opinion, making a quality product that doesn't require me to waste my time with calling customer service is worth way more than a 10.

The Wow Factor
It's a pretty nice product. It kind of looks like a toy, which I'm not a big fan of, but other than that it's a pretty sexy interface I suppose.
